We have gone a few times while traveling in Oceanside San Diego. The food was good! Shakes are very very yummy, but gave me gas. Maybe they have carrageenan? Idk, but they hurt my tummy like milk does. :( The buffalo wings are a MUST! Sooo yummy! Big Zac ROCKS! The mushroom burgers tasted a bit flat and dry, needed more flavor. I am not big on salt, but it needed more seasoning. The staff was super friendly! Yet, the charge of $1.00 for a tiny, simple slice of lettuce and tomato on my kids' burgers... Pretty rediculous. Their excuse was that most kids don't eat them, so they ommit it. My response was "my entire family is vegan and my kids are used to eating veggies."
Great food, prices are a bit hight in my opinion, but I understand it can take more money to be eco friendly... Or someone is trying to make a buck off ethics... The company seems good. I love it's overall ethics and how it got started! But charging for a tiny sliver of lettuce on a kid's burger at a VEGAN joint, where most people eat veggies? Unethical. My suggestion: make the simple lettuce and tomato an option at no charge. This way, unwanted food is not wasted and of those kids whom are actually vegan, are also satisfied. My daughter said we should have just gone and gotten a vegan veggie bean burrito... lol that would have costed only $2.50 for her. Plant Power prices make us able to visit only sometimes. If the prices were better, we'd go everytime we "splurged" on fast food. Total for a family of 5 approx= $60 at Plant Power Fats food. Total in vegan bean/veggie burritos elsewhere approx= $14
While the qualtiy of Plant Power food beats the veggie burrito any day, it's just not reasonable to spend $60 on FAST FOOD.
We're paying for good ethics and good food at Plant Power Fast Food, which is great! I would rather go there than another eatery, but the prices make it impossible for us to do so. If you're single, then it's a great place! But for a family... Unfortunately, no.
Love the people. Love the ethical company. Food is pretty good. Prices are not "fastfood" prices. Prices are more for an eat-in restaurant, not a "fast food" joint. While we may be able to afford eating there once or twice a week, it's just not reasonable to spend that much on "fast food". Plus, we don't eat fast-food often, only when we are out and about. So I wrote all this not to detour you from going, please try the food, sooo good! just be aware of the prices! My hope is maybe for the company to change certain policies that would help them in the long run. Like simple fixings of a normal burger on a kids burger and maybe adjusting the prices so non-vegan peoples will be attracted. It was packed, so idk if that will be an issue. We'll return, but not very soon and not as often as we'd like. 3stars overall. I'd give 5, if it weren't for the shake issue and price of lettuce/tomato on an already bland burger. Cheers! Hope this corrective criticism helps, I don't wish...
Read moreEvery Plant Power menu is different. We are closer to SDSU location but we chose OB because they offer more items.
This location is right off the highway on Sunset across from Shell and Jack and the Box. It has its own building downstairs and parking lot. They even have 4 spaces designated for curb side pick up. Nice outdoor seating area and two restrooms outside that requires a code.
Oh they are also pet friendly! My dog was allowed inside. They said they love dogs. Thank you OB!
When you walk inside, there’s a touch screen stand, one on each side of the room for self ordering. Or you can go up to the counter.
We ordered the Fish Filet Sandwich and the Iconic Burger. Got a side of Iconic Fries which taste like In n Out animal style fries. We also got Buffalo wings. The wing sauce is on point, I wish I had celery! Boyfriend said they remind him of Loving Hut strips.
I tasted more bread than fish filet. Even though the patty appeared to be thick, I wished it was even thicker because it was masked by the two buns. Can’t go wrong with the Iconic Burger.
They have merchandise that you can purchase and even their own...
Read moreI really wanted to like Plant Power, I think we all do. So maybe my hopes were too high. Still, I like them and am very stoked to have access to this place. Plus, they have shakes! And smoothies :) But for me, I'm into quality all around. I was hoping to see condiments a la In n' Out Burger. It's probably just economies of scale. SO, when they can afford to give us fat slices of tomato, healthy amounts of lettuce, sliced onions, and this is critical: special sauce--I'll be stoked. I mean a good sauce made Bob's Big Boy the best burger in the 70s. All you need is home made 1,000 Island. And the chocolate shake is solid for being vegan. There is a bit of a processed/flavored feel to it, kinda like McDonald's shakes, but I loved those growing up. Service was mixed--like they think you're lucky you're eating here. That's cool, but then make the vibe rad--just replacing the #s with names over the PA was an improvement. Hell, maybe I should open up my own place?! So I'll stop and just say "Rock on, Plant Power!" Keep it coming, and when it's possible, PLEASE hook us up with some quality condimentia. We'll...
