We went to OB Noodle House when we made an impromptu visit to San Diego this month. One of the reason was because we are Food Network fans and like to try different places that made it on food network shows. When we first drove up, we found that parking was hard to find. So I was dropped off to make the reservation. The hostess took my phone number and told me the wait time was 55 minutes. I received a text message. That’s when I noticed that the text message included a website link where you could click on it to view your place in line, which I thought was awesome. So we walked around the block to another place because it was too cold to wait outside with our daughter. We waited a little less than an hour and walked back. We were waiting for about 3 minutes before we were notified our table was ready. The first thing I noticed about the place was that it was really dark inside (which is ok considering it was dinner on a Sunday night). The second thing I noticed was that it was really loud. We couldn’t even talk across the table and hear each other at a decent level. We had to yell across the table which made us not even want to bother. The third thing I noticed was that their ceiling fans were going full blast and made the place colder than it was outside. The family next to us had to tell the waiter that it was ridiculously cold inside and the ceiling fans were not necessary. Especially for the ones who had waited outside in its entirety waiting for their tables. I thanked the family next to us. When we order we all ordered a water. They serve the water in a pretty glass container. The water tasted like it was out of an unfiltered tap. I ordered some spring rolls which were nothing special. They tasted as if they had been sitting there for quite some time already made before I had ordered them, because the paper wrap was already getting hard. The roll itself was lacking flavor. I was thankful they served them with a plum peanut sauce. The plum peanut sauce was the highlight of the visit. It was beyond delicious. I had order the char-grilled pork, egg roll and cold vermicelli noodles. The pork had no flavor, the egg roll tasted close to the spring roll with no flavor and the vermicelli was the selling point of the dish. Had it not been for the left over plum peanut sauce from the egg rolls and the fish sauce that was served with my plate, it would have been in eaten. Nothing tasted fresh. It all tasted as if it had been left sitting out until I ordered it. My husband ordered the Saigon House Special Fried Rice which was nothing special. I was actually kind of curious to know how this place made it on the Food Network. It’s in a nice location, however it fell short from being a go to place for us. It was nothing special as far as what we were served that night. Not only was I unimpressed by the entrees, but also the appetizer, the water, how loud it was in the restaurant and how it was colder inside than it was outside and it was pretty cold with the bay breeze. I think a lot of people go for the bar. It seemed as if many were just leaving the beach nearby for some drinks and to eat before going home. I will not...
Read moreCame here for dinner with Friends on a Friday evening and was surprised there was no wait time to get a seat. Very open Ambience and lovely food!
OG Peanut Butter Shot 5/5 - I was surprised how good this morning was! It was like a proper peanut butter drink and not really alcohol. Mind blowing!
House Fried Rice 5/5 - Very creative one here with the seafood and the sausage and all of that inside. Also really appreciate how they were vegetables in this, and everything went so well together. I can totally see why it's a house special and one of their most popular dishes!
Spring Rolls 4.5/5 - simple, substantial and yum! Give me the peanut sauce on the side which was exceptionally good!
Sizzling Fish 4/5 - this one was actually sizzling! Very large portion size here and it came with some rice on the side as well. Fish was cooked perfectly well and had a good seasoning on the outside but the inside felt a little plain cuz it didn't get much of that favoring. Others on the table really enjoyed it but I found it a little plain and compared to the amount of flavor in everything else. It was also quite oily to be honest.
Spicy Garlic Wings 5/5 - I think this was my favorite item among everything else on the menu! Proper crispy on the outside and still didn't feel too oily or anything. Really good amount of spicy flavor and quite a large amount of Wings on the plate as well. Game on a bed of lettuce on the play it and that vegetable actually went well with the spiciness of the wings. 10 on 10 recommend this!
Pan Seared Crispy Egg Noodles 2/5 - This was a very meh dish. We got the chicken and vegetable one and to be honest there was not as much chicken in there as expected. Decent amount of vegetables though so we do appreciate that, but overall the noodles themselves are just not as flavorful and it felt like a large...
Read moreFirst time here, hostesses at the front were friendly and we were seated right away. The woman with the sparkly Doc Martin boots was very welcoming. We entered and my friend stepped in gum or something. The table had a cloth napkin on the ground next to the table that was there until we left. When we told the server about the gum, she apologized, but didn't offer to get something to help.
The place was dark, so when we were given a receipt sized menu of beer, we had to use our phones to read that and the food and drink menus.
It was fun trying something new, I tried a Mescal drink called Deadly something. It was adorable. I tried the 1502 special with American style Wagyu beef. The beef had some large pieces, which was hard to navigate with the long black square chopsticks or fork and it wasn't as hot as I would have preferred. I expected the beef to taste better. We shared a veggie roll that was great, it was a bit hard finding a dish we should share because most of the appetizers have pork in them and my friend doesn't eat pork. It would be great if they could have rolls with another kind of meat for a variety. For two drinks, two pho, and the appetizer it was @$66 plus tip.
The unisex bathroom was disgusting. There was piss on the floor, etching in the mirror, dried toilet paper on the ceiling, and graffiti. Why not pay someone more often to clean? Where can a woman put her bag? Doesn't she have to balance that and her pants up over the urine soaked floor?
There is a happy...
