Response to business: Yes, I filed (yet another) useless member grievance form. Yes, I filed a Dept of Managed Health complaint. Yes, I did both of those prior to detailing this experience. No, I don't expect you to get better. I'm really not sure what to say, after 10 years of Kaiser membership, we are finally done being treated this way.
Original feedback: Same as every Kaiser. Admin/appointment call center/other administrative staff has NO idea what they're doing. They constantly give conflicting info / guidance that ends up wasting your time. We drove 1 hr to this facility for an amniocentesis for my high risk wife (I was her support person), yet on the three calls to them before arriving, no one told us no support person was allowed if they had a child with them. We asked, let them know we would have our 2 year old, and no one mentioned anything about not being able to have him there. She felt uncomfortable without a support person, misinformed by numerous staff in diagnostic imaging, genetics, & OB departments, and now feels like every time we have to engage with staff from this region, her blood pressure skyrockets. She spent her 1.5 hours in the room in tears, asking nurses questions such as "what if I was here as a single mom?" or "why didn't anyone tell us so we could arrange childcare?" (they had no answers, just "oh oops sorry we were supposed to tell you, hehe").
On top of that, staff in this Kaiser region constantly treats male patients and caregivers as if they are DV criminals with no evidence whatsoever. Despite my wife's insistence that I am her support person, I am constantly barred entry or denied. No attitude, no behavior issues, NONE. Just gender discriminated against for being a male.
No one cares or respects your time at all from the SD Kaiser region. They just want to get you off the phone or out of the clinic as quickly as possible. Member grievances do nothing but placate, and advocates don't actually advocate for patients/clients. We pay a ridiculously high premium just to be shamed out of services that we pay for. This is the most predatory provider I have ever been with, and after 10 years with Kaiser, I cannot wait to leave the network. All thanks to this facility (as well as the entire SD area admin team).
Save yourself hassle if you live in Greater SD and get anyone BUT Kaiser for your healthcare insurance and provider. Don't let the "high ratings" fool you, they're just as broken as the rest of the healthcare system. I have filed yet another member grievance against these teams of clowns as well as a California Department of Managed...
Read moreToday I had a surgery at this location and every single person from pre-op to post-op was SO SO SWEET. seriously, this is my fourth surgery and I’ve had other hospital stays as well, and I have never ever had an experience like that before.
There’s a help desk right in the lobby of the main building where they greet you and offer you assistance finding where to go. I got up to the surgery lounge and there are TONS of outlets there. Also, there are couches, booths and tables, and chairs. It’s the most comfortable waiting area I’ve ever seen, let alone in a hospital. They managed to bring me back early too, I don’t think I was even waiting 5 minuets.
In pre-op the gentleman nurse was so kind while putting in my IV, he chatted with me and was so gentle, upbeat, and understanding about my needle fear. I have small veins, and he got it in one go where I’ve had nurses at other places have to dig around in my hand before. Then the anesthesiologist came and talked to me, and really made me feel listened to when I opened up about my previous issues with anesthesia. Even the surgeon was both professional and upbeat. He really helped ease my nerves and made me feel safe.
I got taken back to surgery much earlier then they had originally planned because they were ready early, which was great. In the room the OR nurses were cheerful and bubbly. They were very clear with directions and kind about not rushing me. They chatted with me about my hopes and dreams as they set up, and as I went out the anesthesiologist told me imagine nice happy places.
I came out of surgery in an unexpected (by me) amount of pain, but the nurses held my hand and spoke to me with gentile kindness. I’ve often had post-op nurses be forceful or dismissive towards me but they weren’t at all. They got my medicine adjusted so I wasn’t in pain, and a few different nurses came but simply to bring me crackers and talk to me and hold my hand. They even brought in my mother before they usually do because I needed her support. It helped so much. I’ve never had such a wonderful experience. I would definitely go out of my way to schedule future surgeries at...
Read moreI came to follow up on a right ear infection that was treated a couple nights before in the emergency room. Doctor noted left ear looked fine but had a lot of earwax. Highly recommended cleaning at the office. I reluctantly consented, since my hearing was fine in that ear and I was thinking usually it's not a good idea to treat when there is not a justifiable risk. The cleaning caused the earwax in my left ear to become very impacted and clog, causing me to be unable to hear from that ear. The doctor said hearing should not be messed around with and said he would put in an urgent request to move forward my appointment at the ENT specialist to be that week and preferably in next couple of days. I called the specialist and told them my doctor had put in the request, but they had no appointments so would not schedule me. I went to urgent care as they advised and waited for 3-4 hours. They finally saw me and told me they couldn't do anything, that I should use debrox for a week and then see the nurses clinic to get it flushed out. I have been using the debrox but I think there is very little benefit from it as the wax is so far up my canal that there is hardly any surface area coverage. It seems likely to me that attempting to flush it would possibly cause an even greater problem. I called medical advice tonight and they told me there was nothing they could do. When you caused the problem and it is my hearing, why won't you do anything about it? This is causing issues with concentration, pain, anxiety, and even some balance issues due to the impaction. Why should I trust your doctors when they caused a medical problem and give bad advice on how to treat it and won't take responsibility for treating it?
