Capsule Summary: Good practice course. Pluses: Has driving range, putting green (and chipping area, I think), and an outside bar. The layout loops back to the clubhouse several times, so one may skip out or quit early quite easily. Currently under extensive renovation. Negatives: No challenges. Expensive for what it offers and what you get.
Not a bad little 3-par course, but several other 3-par courses in the area (e.g., Tecolote Canyon, Lomas Santa Fe Executive, and Emerald Isle) are less expensive with much more interesting terrain and hazards. As well, one can get similar value from the hybrid Goat Hill Park in Oceanside (a fairly difficult course) or the Balboa Park regulation-length 9-hole course (wide fairways, rolling geography and layout). Basically, the biggest problem with Mission Bay is that it is flat and boring. The fairways are relatively wide and straight, but that is not necessarily a plus. The first time I played this course, I had only played golf for a few months. The people who worked there were a bit surly, but the other players were worse (I gave it 4 stars then). This time around, the staff were nice, and the players were even nicer. But the course itself is blah/boring for those who've been playing golf for an...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreConvenient driving range - fun little executive courseā¦but the young blonde gentleman working today at 10:30am (5/7/23) is a very inconsiderate and uncaring person and SHOULD NOT be working there anymore.
I walked into the pro shop and said āgood morning how are yahā to this employee where he then only looked at me and turned back to his female coworker to continue their oh-so-important conversations. After waiting for another 20 ish seconds I asked if I could get a medium bucket - where he then glanced up once again at me (saying nothing), typed something into the computer- out spits my ticket and he continues on with his conversation. Not ONE word was said to me and it was the most uncomfortable, unprofessional, and unpleasant experience Iāve ever had at this golf course and Iāve been coming here for YEARS.
This employee (blonde, young 20s, light blue hat) should be terminated immediately. He has no business treating customers like this.
I talked about it to a few people on the range too and they ALL agreed that this man had something going on with him. Maybe even under the influence while working - he seemed off like he was on something said one person in the range.
Mission Bay Golf Course needs to terminate this employee...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've never been treated so poorly as a paying customer. My 2 girlfriends and I, one an essential healthcare worker, came to the range adhering to safety guidelines. The owner, Rob, took one look at us and kicked us out because my friend was giving advise on how to better hold our clubs, which he called "giving lessons". She had only played a couple times before and is in no way an instructor. Rob was extremely condescending and sexist - there were men at the range doing the same exact thing as us and he left them alone. There was even a father instructing his son down the course. We were being quiet, polite, and respecting the rules and Rob made sure to come up to all 3 of us to verbally attack us. I would dissuade any females from coming here as Rob made it very clear that women are not welcome. Any other golf course is better...
