My husband and I came here for our 12 year wedding anniversary to watch Lalaland and the show was amazing! I would give 5 stars to the sf symphony and composer Justin Horowitz, they are so talented and you can see the passion and feel the music in the way they performed.
I am giving 2 stars to the venue and the reason why it's not 5 stars is due to the staff members. Almost everyone was unwelcoming, stern and unfriendly at the theater. It was our first time there so we had to ask for directions for the bar or restrooms and the staff acted like they didn't want to be there or help us. When they answered our questions, it seemed like they were bothered by us for not knowing or giving us attitude for asking. Didn't seem like they enjoyed their jobs at all. I should have known when I called in before the show asking if I can bring a hydraflask of water into the venue and the gentlemen said yes but didn't even say thank you or have a nice day or even bye at the end of the phone call, he just hung up. Another example is when I was waiting near an open door for fresh air (which it wasn't me who opened the door, someone else did before I got there) a lady staff member came by and acted like I opened the door and told me she was going to close it with attitude. The same staff member told us I couldn't bring snacks in the theatre which is fine but the way she said it was again, mean and offputting. And I wouldn't have written this review if it was one person. Even the ushers looked serious/mean when they told us where to sit and it wasn't a welcoming venue at all. We paid for pretty good seats and the show was awesome, but the staff's lack of customer service or even basic courtesy or friendliness was eye opening to me. I've never experienced this negative feeling leaving any venue. We walked out of the theater amazed at the show but disappointed with how we were treated. And PS- Please turn on your AC or have fans or something inside the theater, it was so hot and stuffy, very...
Read moreBeautiful building, wonderful SEATS and acoustics. YEAH, YEAH was NOT! The artist came on with an overkill production. (Very little of nothing) Then she praised the beautiful build and the wonderful seating. Then goes on to say if you feel the music and have to express yourself feel free to stand. IF I pay for a seat I expect to have an unistructed view. Not someone's ass. People pay for seating for many reasons. Handicapped, injured or just can't stand. In the lower section everyone was forced to stand in the upper section there might have been 6-10 people that stood. The seats weren't the best in the upper but on this night the seats were 100'/. better. The lighting was dark. Blues and red and the white lights in the back were shining in your eyes. We left after the 2nd song. The play list wasn't worth standing for or staying til her hit song. I give the whole experience a 1 out 5 and that's because the building is beautiful and...
Read moreSat in CC,102 and got great acoustics. Man in front was tall and obstructing when he shifted position often - but it is music so it isn’t like i needed to see anything. The seat has easy access to lobby as well. First time back to Davies since covid, you get a cup from table (and lid) to fill at drinking fountain. Person near us had alarm go off during performance and had to dig thru purse and check ipad and iPhone to find which one and how to turn off. I pondered this a while as listening to the music - maybe the ask at the beginning to mute devices should have a long awkward pause and speaker is staring at audience. Then repeat the message. Yes i am talking to you - go to each device and turn off alarms, set DND, airplane mode, etc, we will all wait now for...
