From the moment you step inside the New Conservatory Theatre Center (NCTC), you feel it—this is more than just a theater. It’s a vibrant, inclusive home for creativity, growth, and community. Located in the heart of San Francisco, NCTC’s mission to support artists, youth, and the queer and allied communities isn’t just words on a wall—it’s felt in every class, every conversation, and every corner of this beautiful space. I recently completed their Adult Scene Study class with the incomparable Jeffery Draper, and I can honestly say it was one of the most enriching and inspiring experiences of my adult life. Whether you’re just stepping into acting or sharpening your skills, this class offers a fun, supportive environment where you can take bold risks, discover new layers of your craft, and connect with other passionate creatives. Each week, we explored character, motivation, and storytelling in ways that were both challenging and rewarding. Jeffery’s direction was equal parts insightful and encouraging—he meets you where you are and helps you rise. The space itself is warm, professional, and beautifully maintained—from the intimate black box theater to the cozy lobby and rehearsal rooms. If you’re looking for a place to grow as an artist, to be seen and supported, or just to try something new in a welcoming environment, run to NCTC. Their adult drama classes are exceptional, and the community they’ve built is something truly special. This is San Francisco theater at its finest. Bravo, NCTC!

Very cozy theater. Not a bad seat in the house as far as viewing the stage is concerned. Seats were in good repair and clean too. Wish they were a little wider since we got sandwiched by people taller & wider than ourselves, but not the end of the world. The bathrooms are starting to show their age, but were functional. Nice little bar with sodas for $2 and limited snacks like candy and cookies. Staff was friendly and helpful. If another production comes into town, we wouldn't hesitate to return.

If your watching a show here, the seating side-to-side is really tight to one another, and the rows are also close together, so prepare to share intimate space with your neighbors. The nice thing about a small spaced theater is you can hear the actors very well, and see them as well.

I recently had the pleasure of attending a performance at the New Conservatory Theatre Center (NCTC), and I cannot express enough how incredible the experience was. This theater truly shines as a beacon of inclusivity and celebration of the LGBT community. From the moment I stepped into the venue, I felt embraced by a warm and welcoming atmosphere, surrounded by fellow theater enthusiasts and supporters of diversity.

The quality of the productions at NCTC is nothing short of outstanding. The performances are riveting, heartfelt, and thought-provoking, showcasing the immense talent of the actors and the dedication of the creative team. The stories they bring to life are diverse and captivating, shedding light on important issues and giving a voice to the underrepresented. The theater's commitment to promoting queer voices and narratives is commendable, and it has become a vital platform for fostering understanding and empathy within...

Fun little theater. Saw avenue q here. The theater is a quick walk away from the Civic Center BART which was great. It's also right by Hayes street so there are a lot of great food/drink options around for a meal or drink before the show. There's also a small little bar inside the theater which can get a little long because there seems to be only one bartender. The theater itself seems to sit about 60 people max and the views from ever seat was great! It probably goes 8 to 10 rows back theater...
