Natasha's Attic - Costume Shop — Attraction in San Jose

I went into this shop last week a couple days before the renaissance faire to rent an outfit. I was greeted at the door with the most unusual experience I have no words for. I walked in and said hi hello how are you ? He something to my recollection of “ I’m not high yet but if you give me some drugs I could be “ ???? Ummm what ? I beg your pardon?? This is how you talk to customers ? I said I’m sorry I don’t have any drugs I’m Just looking to rent a costume. He goes “ oh I don’t do them anyways “ uhhh ok ?? He begins to talk about my bust size in front of all the customers by the register and engaging other employees yelling things like what size do you think she is in the bust and then telling me I was quite large on top with a small waist in front everyone was really the cherry on top. I thought it couldn’t get any worse and then he introduces me to the young lady that would be helping me pick out my rental costume. When she saw me her already sour puss face turned sourer if even possible. I interacted with her maybe 5 minutes and she acted like she wanted to off herself. She most really hate her Job. She was extremely rude and aggressive with me. She made me feel super uncomfortable and like I was a burden in their store. She looked like she wanted to throw up being around me I don’t know what her problem was. I literally was just trying to get a costume. She kept mentioning that the leather ones were more and almost like insinuating I couldn’t afford it lol. She would not let me try on more than 2 tops and was putting weird limits on things. She was not helpful in styling the complete look and she was extremely aggravated that I was indecisive as I told her from the beginning I was going to need help planning this out. I can’t see the full picture. But she did not order any help. Towards the end she did ask if there was any colors I really liked so she could pull the under shirt/skirt thing and I said just whatever matches. She pulls out a navy skirt thing that was to go with a black corset type top. And I said oh no I don’t like the navy. That’s when she snapped at me for the last time. She said verbatim very aggressively “ that’s why I told you to tell me if you like/ don’t like any colors beforehand” …. Um excuse me !???? You are seriously talking to a client this way. I picked up my things. Told her this isn’t working out you have a horrible attitude and she said ok and I walked out. I really wanted to love this place because I’m new to the area and my new hairstylist was raving about this place saying she gets all her costumes there. That shop girl completely ruined it for me. I didn’t go to the fair because of that. Because I waited all week to go there and get an outfit on my day off and that was the last day I could have gotten a costume. I’ve never felt so unwanted and I literally did nothing to this girl but exist and she hated my whole being. We need to be better at customer service. People are acting like it’s a lost art in this...

I've been a customer since the owner worked out of her home by Eastridge. They never answer their phone!

They have a huge selection of costumes, paints, wigs etc.

I'm not happy with my experience of not being able to try on the mask for any costume. I stressed that I wasn't spending $72.95 on a costume that I couldn't confirm how the mask fit on my face and head, because they have a zero return policy. They let me try two on and thank God they did, because they both fit horribly! Cat woman kept sliding up and covering my eyes and bat woman was so tight it was digging into my face. Who wants to buy a costume if you can't try on the...

Pros: wide selection including great accessories, friendly staff, dressing rooms.

Cons: prices are high, and arbitrary. We had different staff people tell us completely different prices for renting items, it all seems totally made up on the spot. At one point a staffer was whispering a price to us because she said she didn’t want another customer to hear our quote. I had to agree to a $700 deposit for items that at most might be worth $100. I wish pricing was more transparent - list prices for renting a full outfit, or single items of different types clearly, that way customers don’t feel they’re...
