AxeVentures was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to the bay area. We have been wanting to give axe throwing a try & it was worth the wait to do it at the San Jose AxeVentures location.
We went on a Monday afternoon & had the whole place to ourselves. The instructor was superb at not only teaching, but also clearly answering all our questions with the patience to demonstrate & improve our throws.
At first some of us were a bit nervous about safety but at the end of our session we all became much more comfortable thanks to the environment AxeVentures created & axe safety.
We tried all 5 of the axe sizes as well as both the different throwing techniques taught. In the end, two of us preferred using the bigger axes with the two hand throw (the girls), while the other preferred the smallest with the single arm (the guy). I also started to get a hang of the single arm throw with the small axe as well towards the end, so it goes to show trying our different axes and techniques is worth the effort
The binder of axe throwing games was great to have and tons of fun! We ended up playing three games and it helped us work on our aim & add more excitement to the overall experience.
Highly recommended for all! We want to make it a family tradition now to go every time we visit! Thank you to the amazing staff at AxeVentures San Jose for making our day! We had...
Read moreThis was my first time axe-throwing and I was honestly very surprised to have an amazing experience! My two biggest concerns before coming here were [1] Lack of outdoor space as this place seemed indoors from the pictures and [2] potentially heavy weight axes would mean that this experience would soon get tiring!
I’m happy that both of my concerns turned out to be false alarms! While this place is partially indoors, they’ve opened up the doors on both sides thereby allowing plenty of air circulation. Also, you can be masked while throwing the axes thereby making this a safe experience!
With regards to the axes, they have a pretty huge selection of axes ranging from lightweight to moderate and then the more heavier ones! Surprisingly none of the axes were as heavy and once our trainers taught us the right technique, it was smooth sailing from there!
In terms of logistics, there’s plenty of parking available. Besides axe throwing, you can also order drinks and beers. It’s worth noting that all slots start and stop at the same time and are 1:15 hours long ! If you’re certain that you’re not gonna be able to make it in time for your reservation, I’d call the place up and try to reschedule instead of coming in midway through your slot.
Highly highly recommend this experience especially with a larger group...
Read moreMy 40th birthday party started here and it was the best decision I have made in all my years on this earth. As a first time axe thrower/long time secret admirer of the sport, my request for this activity for my bday was initially met with laughter and raised eyebrows. But it's like I always say- Friends who do Lumberjack Games together, stay together.
So we made it an '80s theme and 20 of us met at AxeVentures on a Saturday night. The area is decorated with some fun murals and neon lights and the staff were friendly and great guides. We got the standard 3 axes ranging from maybe a foot long to I think 18", plus the fire axe and the knives for an extra cost. The staff gave us time to get the feel of the standard axes before adding in the extras periodically. It runs kind of like a bowling alley in that we paid per lane and could have up to 5 people at each lane- our group reserved 4 lanes.
We took lots of video and pics, and they had water and sodas available for purchase. They may have had adult bevs but I didn't look for them- they weren't needed to have a blast anyway! And as it was my bday I had expected there would be alcohol so I am impressed that I was having too much fun in the moment to think of it. Plenty of that...
