Planet Fitness — Attraction in San Jose

BEWARE OF THIS FACILITY!!! THEY WILL CONTINUE TO TAKE YOUR MONEY, EVEN AFTER CANCELLATION!! Three years after canceling, I realized money was still being deducted from my bank!! They claimed I could not cancel my daughters membership over the phone or via email, Even though I live in Alabama. So I had my daughter physically go in and cancel. Unfortunately, after a couple years she no longer felt she needed to keep her written copy of cancellation. When I contacted the facility two months ago to find out why I was being charged, they claimed they had no record of my bank account being charged at all. They told me to contact ABC planet fitness, who bills. I contacted them, and after horrible service… Continuously promised calls back and not receiving them, they told me they had no record of any of these transactions either. I finally canceled my card, and literally a week later they tried to charge it again. When it did not clear, an automated text was sent to my daughters phone. All of a sudden, the story changes …They said they could not track any of the information because it was under my daughters name and not mine… Even though I showed them the bank transactions repeatedly. I have asked to speak to several levels of management. Took over a week to speak with the general manager, who tells me she’ll only reimburse three months. I am owed over 400.00!! So my daughter tried calling… And whoever she spoke with said she would go ahead and re-cancel the membership, OVER THE PHONE, signed my daughters name to a contract, ( ILLEGAL) and told her now the card would not be charged further. I have proved there has been no activity at that facility since 2019. Yep they claim since I cannot show them a piece of paper that proves we have canceled 3 years ago… they will not reimburse me. I requested over a week ago to speak to the next level management. I am told there is no phone number, I had to send an email… I have sent three. I have yet to receive a call back or acknowledgment from the next level of management. This is absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional!

Just for the record… My daughter quit attending this facility because of the poor conditions, filthy lady‘s room, And poor attitude of the attendants on site!! Apparently they will not file cancellations properly either!!! BEWARE IF YOU CANCEL!! YOU NEED TO KEEP A COPY OF YOUR PAPERWORK FOREVER, OR BE AT RISK OF THEFT FROM YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!!!!

NOTE: I have been asked how three years went by without noticing money being withdrawn. First and foremost, my husband and I also attended planet fitness in Alabama. When I would see charges, I assumed they were for my accounts. When Covid showed up, I canceled our accounts. Then a year later charges started showing up again. Unfortunately I did not notice for almost 8 months the planet fitness charges on this account. ( it was my “ fun money” account that I stashed money into, and hardly ever used)

Planet fitness stopped charging during Covid, so there was almost a year w no charges… then they Arbitrarily started again. So there was a long period with no charges… thus bringing less attention to the fraudulent...

For the business: Today my wife and I stopped by and Aylin signed us up. Her customer service was amazing, she was very thorough and really made us feel welcome.

For the rest of you: Very clean, welcoming enviroment. We had specifically chosen Planet Fitness because we remember the time a woman tried to raise a ruckus about a trans-woman being in the facilities and how planet fitness handles the scenario. I have really bad anxiety and knowing that management has to have your back or their job is on the line really helps. Also, the kind of person who won't do the right thing in such a situation probably won't work at a place which has the level of focus on inclusivity and non judgement as planet fitness.

WHICH BRINGS ME TO MY NEXT POINT (end trans-centric rant): in the past I have left gyms because working out while a roid ripping body builder is slamming weights and shouting "Work!" at people around them like it is going to help, is pretty off putting to someone who is just trying to get in, do their thing and be left alone. Planet Fitness makes it VERY CLEAR that you are to respect the equipment and the space of others. If you somehow get through signup without getting that message, there is enough signage around the building spelling it out.

They have lots of cardio equipment and all of the essential weight stations. Another really nice perk that I have never seen before is that they provide a schedule which highlights the busiest hours, how about that my friends with anxiety?

I have had a membership at this gym for a couple months. So far the staff seems fairly friendly, as are those who work out there. It seems that's the members are a rather young demographic. The locker rooms are not kept up as well as I would like, there are a couple of broken shower heads that have been broken for months, oftentimes the floor is wet and slippery, but rather than getting a mop, the staff just puts out a yellow slippery when wet sign then congregates at the front desk. The soap dispensers and automatic faucets are broken and difficult to work. They do not have hair dryers in the locker room. The mirrors are often dirty and the sink countertops have water resting on them all the time. On the actual gym floor, despite being crowded oftentimes at peak hours, the equipment seems well taken care of and fairly clean almost all the time. There is a good variety of machines and free weights. The music they play is decent, and it is generally all in all a pretty relaxed atmosphere as far as gyms go. The obvious draw is the very affordable rates which make it an extremely ideal gym for people whom are just trying to get back in the swing of working out or for those who are starting for the first time. I think that all in all you get what you pay for, and in this case despite the frustrating I listed in the locker room the value is very much all that it should be for what...
