This was the first (official) mental health institution in the island built by the Spaniards. If you look from above you can see it's the closest building to the fort (closest to the line of fire), which gives you an idea of what was though of individuals with mental health problems at that time hehe. Otherwise a beautifully restored building.
Next to it is the Hospital de Beneficencia... Which is the actual first "mental health" institution where, according to historic documents, they mostly kept "drunks, prostitutes, and orphans"; a horrible combination but also indicative of the very limited understanding of mental health...

Its also a very safe environment where you dont have to constantly worry about your stuff getting stolen, just an unwritten rule to not touch anything that isnt yours that the students and staff have I guess. Read moreThis is a building turned into a small college campus. The building is old with mold on the walls and classrooms. Several students have to take classes in the hallways. No air conditioning in several classrooms or extraction units to purify air quality. Students have to park outside of the campuss because they have no student parking.
