Schottenstein Property Group owns and manages Madonna Plaza shopping center in San Luis Obispo as I have used this center for over 38 years but within the last 5 years, we have had a homeless problem roaming in the shopping center 24/7 with not one security guard on duty, absolutely no security at all, nothing nothing nothing nothing at all !!!
We have people sleeping in their cars every single night with no one to tell them they need to leave. Then you have the grocery store selling the booze when these homeless buy their alcohol and they make the parking lot & the front of the stores a playground for sleeping, fighting, begging and etc. People camp in their RV's, vans, car's, travel trailers every single night when there are signs that state no overnight camping in your vehicles. What good is it to place signs if no one listens and two, why isn't there any security on their property to protect customers and tenants from these homeless transients? It's dangerous and is not safe at night when there are several businesses open at night and no security is out there to protect people. It is a sad and it is Schottenstein Property Group negligence by failing to provide security on their own property. They only call the police department once in a blue moon but they are located in Ohio, not in California to bother to see how bad their property is neglected, they simply do not care for the people doing business at their shopping center but yet they said repeatedly they were going to hire security the last couple of years over and over but there's nothing. It is like they keep lying to people but the answer is, they don't care. It is a shame that this property used to be well cared for but that was the prior owners who owned it but Schottenstein bought it, raised everybody's rent and fired the security leaving the place a mess for crime. So I am writing my review as it needs to be shared on how bad this management company is. The tenants and the customers are upset at this management company as everybody calls & complains but not one thing is done to resolve any of the issues of the camping, loitering, the drinking, sleeping and etc....
Read moreThe stores here are great, wonderful service. But the security guards seem to think you need justification to sit on the public benches located outside of the stores.
I had been sitting down after going into Michaels, as I was waiting for my ride. I was sitting down for maybe 5 minutes before I was approached by two security guards, who asked why I was sitting on the bench (phrased as "so, are you waiting for your ride or something?). I really didn't appreciate the assumption that I was doing something wrong by sitting in a public space, or the way that it seemed like I needed a reason to be sitting there. I might have been waiting for my ride, but people shouldn't need a reason to exist in public spaces. If somebody wants to sit down, they should be able to, without having to justify why...
Read moreI wouldn't exactly call this a 'shopping center', It is lacking a center. It is more like a strip mall with a few stores, Ralphs, Best Buy, Petco, a massage place and a shoe store. See's Candy is my favorite place at the mall, and if your want a meal, they have a great sushi place. I go their often. It's just so spread out, I don't know where the mall ends and the store accros the street begin., but don't plan on parking and strolling around the mall. You park in the middle of the mall and the stores surround the parking lot. It doesn't make for a view or a place to sit and people watch and you sure don't go browsing or clothes shopping. It is an in and out type of place where you go...
