Unfortunately having to update my review after a boot fitting experience in 2025âŚ
I stopped in to have a small navicular punch done on a pair of boots I had picked up on my last Colorado trip, and none of the welcoming feel I had from my previous visit was retained. The guy who helped me didnât do any shell fit testing, simply asking me to make in some tape where the punches should go and he would take care of it ready for pickup the following day.
Upon pickup, I see that my right boot has a MASSIVE navicular punch that looks like a tumor, with the edges super sharp and defined and the left boot has almost no punch at all. The guy who was there when I picked them up, offered to bump the left one out a little more to be similar, so I thought sure, at least theyâll be the same; but instead he comes out with a punch that is even larger than whatâs in the right boot. At this point Iâm horrified as it looks like they have stretched my shells beyond repair, but he offers to massage it back in a little, which he does, but it still doesnât match the other boot. At that point I decided to just leave as Iâm worried my shells are now ruined and I donât trust them to do any more work.
Iâm not sure what has changed since my experience a couple of years ago, but from a boot fitting perspective this place has gone way down hill. No proper bootfitting practices as I understand them were followed and I felt rushed the whole time, which is really frustrating as Iâm paying for custom boot modifications at a rate they set. I now almost want to cry when I look down at my mutilated boots đ
I recently stepped in Atlantas other major ski shop (you know, the big franchise one) and while they had more in their inventory, the "vibe" of Rocky Mountain was far superior and the quality of the products as a whole was much higher. This is the place for the true skier who appreciates high quality gear This is an amazing hidden gem here in the ATL area that would rival ski shops in even the biggest ski towns.
My first experience at RM was as a walk in for boot fitting/purchase without advanced notice. Gary fit me in quickly, and spent a ton of time with me making sure my boots fit as well as they could. We tried 5-6 different models after he throuroughly evaluated my foot shape and finally landed on what turned out to be one of the more affordable options we tried that day, which really speaks to the integrety of both Gary and their business practices. Ive been back in to have those same boots stretched (on their incrediby nice boot stretching rig) after my first trip with them, and they were happy to modify the boots however I needed with no additional fees. They fit like a true custom boot now, and I have so much leg and ankle support that it has changed my skiing entirely.
They had a ton of options for clothes, gloves, helmets and other accessories but were strangely low on inventory of 48"-50" poles which I was in...
Read moreAfter coming back from our first snowboarding trip, my girlfriend fell in love with the sport and was excited to buy her own boots for our upcoming trip to Brian Head in Utah. She visited this store after seeing the great reviews in hopes of getting expert advice and a proper fitting, thinking it would be the perfect place to start her snowboarding journey.
However, from the moment she asked for help, the person in charge of fittings told her he wouldnât fit her so that she could turn around and buy the boots online. This condescending attitude overshadowed the entire visit and made her feel unwelcome right from the start. Having worked in the outdoor gear industry myself, I understand the concern about âshow rooming,â but itâs still inappropriate to dismiss a new customer without first understanding their needs or asking any questions and automatically assuming their intent.
Frustrated by this experience, my girlfriend went down the street to Peter Glennâs, where Derek took his time to fit her properly and share valuable insights about snowboarding. If youâre a beginner who wants a respectful, patient fitting, I highly recommend going there instead. Unfortunately, this type of condescending behavior towards newcomers is not unheard of in outdoor communities, but we believe in supporting local businesses that welcome rather than judge.
When I later called the store manager to provide constructive feedback and avoid writing this review altogether, I mentioned that our ski trip was only two days away. Even if we had intended to buy online (which we didnât), the boots wouldnât have arrived in time anyway. Had their staff taken a moment to learn about my girlfriendâs situation, they wouldâve realized that. Instead, the manager offered a lukewarm apology and defended the employee, insisting heâs their âbest ski/snow sales repââan excuse that doesnât justify his dismissive behavior and...
Read moreI really like this store and their expertise! Each time I go in I am amazed by their level of service and knowledge. Iâve never felt like they were just trying to sell me stuff and a few time Iâve been talked out of a purchase and told âyou should stick with what you haveâ. Iâd like to share a few of my experiences. One time after checking out, the clerk realized he made a mistake and overcharged me and stopped me from walking out the door and gave me the difference in cash that was his error. Very honest! On another occasion, I took my kids in to get outfitted for some ski gear and my youngest daughter, who is five years old brought her teddy bear in and the staff was asking about her teddy bear and she said her teddy bears name was âSparklesâ (please see photo. after we got all of our gear and we were in the car headed out of town for our trip my five-year-old realized she had left her teddy bear Sparkles at the store. All I can say is holy five-year-old meltdown! I was able to calm her with a promise that I would go back to the store and get sparkles when we returned. When I was back in town, it took two or three weeks for me to return and I was a little nervous that I would not be able to make good on my promise to her and Sparkles would be lost forever. When at the store I asked about the teddy bear and with so much excitement. Several of the staff were overjoyed to tell me that sparkles was in good hands, and theyâve been holding and waiting on our return. Even had a little note that sparkles was waiting for her mom to return to pick her up. These people truly go above and beyond and give a level of service that I have not found in almost any other retail establishment. If I could give more stars, I would!...
