So I went for a walk around downtown Sanford a week or so a go. It is a nice small city atmosphere. As if everyone knows everyone, it's nice. Then I walked upon this gem. Being a retired cavalry scout I thought it was all around nice for the city to have the memorial and then I noticed something was wrong...The POW flag is flown upside down. Well being a veteran who served with 2SCR and a member of their Order of the Combat Spur I went to fix it, "always ready." I couldn't and the reason was an annoyance...I didn't have a small ladder to give me the reach to unlash the rope. So not wanting to be bested by something as simple as reaching a cable I tried to increase my reach and wasn't able to find anything that would give me the needed boost...If only I was 7"2', haha.... Well bested by my own stature and lack of equipment I went across the street to the city hall and called their hotline. Informed them of the issue and left them my contact info...It should be fixed by now...
Other than that it is a nice park, it really is calming and the fact its part of the 2nd Regiment of Dragoons history is just all around cool.

Read moreSo peaceful. The grounds are taken care. I like that there are plenty of seating areas around 3 to look at the marina or at Lake Monroe. I did also noticed that there were a bunch of fishermen at the end. It just has a very peaceful vibe to it. Read moreI just moved into the Sanford area; I had only heard about the rich historical area until I had the opportunity to read it myself! The memorial is so well done. I really enjoyed the walk and share the history with my daughter; she even seen her teacher's name on one of the plaques. I shared how her grandfather fought in the Koren War and received a Purple Heart. Yes this area is well done and Rich with history that we can share and try not to repeat the sins...
