Santa Cruz Motors — Attraction in Santa Cruz

I’d avoid this dealer if you don’t want a stereotypical independent used car dealer experience. My mother purchased a vehicle from Santa Cruz Motors which was being sold as-is and promised by the salesman as mechanically sound. On the drive home the vehicle started making a jerking motion while accelerating. After investigating what the issue might be and verifying with the manufacturer’s dealership at its next service interval several months later, I reached out to Santa Cruz Motors for her to try and work something out on covering the costs. Since then, owner and manger Travis Stengl has used typical used car dealer tactics to avoid responsibility, saying things such as “we never once told you your vehicle will have zero issues..”. But with the promise of mechanical soundness made in writing (the salesman’s mistake I take it) Travis later agreed to settle for half the $5K cost of repair. Although, he never sent payment and instead asked his attorney to draw up a different agreement that included, notably, a gag-order for my 67 year old mother outlining that he would sue her if she spoke “truthfully” about the transaction, the dealership, or any of their personnel. I purchased a Toyota Sienna from Santa Cruz Motors and was truly amazed by the service they provided me. Michael and Jorge went above and beyond to accommodate me with my purchase. The vehicle I purchased was pristine and in immaculate condition. I explained to them that I would drive the vehicle home which was 567 miles away. I had not seen the vehicle personally but they sent me pictures of the vehicle inside and out and assured me that the vehicle would make the trip with no issues. They even showed pictures of the tire tread to reassure me that they had plenty of tread and should not have issues for the long haul home. I have never purchased a vehicle without taking it for a test drive but this was just an experience I will never forget because their high rating is why they made my buying experience worth repeating. This guy was honestly very rude to me up until I signed the papers. I think because I was younger he didn’t view me as a serious buyer. Also the car was over priced and the bushing were worn out (which was not disclosed) the car was relatively new with only around 30k miles but it was not clean (there were spider webs inside) and smelled like smoke so I had to get it detailed. I like the car but I wish i would have shopped around more and after he was so rude to me I felt kind of funny buying from him. I wouldn’t recommend going here based on the issues I’ve had with my car and the over guarantee for customer satisfaction is not likely in my opinion.
