Hands down the biggest in Santa Fe, and they have everything you need, including outdoor training space! There is nothing in Santa Fe that even comes close to being a full service gym except Defined Fitness. For some reason the only national chain that services Santa Fe is Anytime Fitness which is where I usually go when in town because my insurance picks up the fee. There's a gym called Santa Fe Spa that's decent with a very friendly clientele but it's much smaller. My only complaint is that their pricing is not all that friendly for people in town on short stays. It's either $20/day or $100/month if you can't do their monthly draft. The draft is quite reasonable if you can make a 12 month commitment. I hope someone reads this and introduces some other shorter term options. Well, maybe I do have another complaint, don't bother trying to shower in the men's locker room, the water will never get warm.(This is only a winter problem) You do fortunately have an alternative; there's a few areas called 'family changing rooms' that get sufficient water heating, it's just a little odd to get to if you're using the sauna or the pool. The aqua massage beds are a nice touch, I hope they stand up to the test of time. I'll definitely come back when I'm staying a few weeks or more in Santa Fe. If you're just in town for a few days to a week you're better off with The Santa Fe Spa in my opinion.
5/25/23 I am now a member and use this gym daily when in Santa Fe. I still love the size and variety of equipment. The gym is definitely busy during most open hours. I've been told by staff that they are understaffed and are looking for more employees so that they can accommodate extending the hours back to precovid standards. I often come late at night and find myself rushing to finish up by closing time of 10pm, but hey, that's Santa Fe, most businesses that cater to an evening crowd still close shop between 9-11pm. I have noticed a few issues that will likely resolve with more employees; wet floors in locker rooms and changing areas because they are frequently used and not as frequently cleaned, empty toilet paper dispenser's, and equipment out of order signs that stay up for more than a few days. And lately I've noticed an odd choice of storing pallets full of beverages on the workout floor. Don't get me wrong, I'm still happy the gym exists and enjoy my workouts here, just wish they had the staff to be more conscientious about the...
Read moreGeneral manager L* was very inflexible when I asked for some reasonable compromises to my 7 day free trial wristband. He had put the wristband on me before he finished explaining they'd need to be on for 24/7.
I immediately asked if we could readjust it, have it not be so tight, if I could just have a different wrist band each day I come in, or if we could just cut it and I'll bring the same wristband each day for QR code scanning.
No to every reasonable suggestion! They have me in the system already... It's not like I'd cheat them by bringing the same wristband for free after the 7 days are over AND they have to personally scan the QR codes, so it's not like I'd be able to sneak past them either. And of course they can't use wristbands that can clasp and unclasp for convenience. The moment you cut off this wristband, even after only wearing it for 10 SECONDS, you void the entire 7 day free trial. No other gym does that.
What infuriated me the most was how much L* had repeated the same words over and over going "per corporate policy" as if he didn't hear anything I said. It was like I poked an NPC in a video game with pre-recorded dialogue on repeat. Like, I get the company policy but have some common sense ESPECIALLY when your name tag has General Manager on it. Have some leeway and discretion before you drive off potential customers over something so minor. OR finish explaining the whole thing and double check how the customer wants the wristband BEFORE clasping it on.
Besides that, the equipment isn't that great as it can first appear. The equipment sorta felt like they were made of somewhat cheap material the more you handle them. More importantly, the weighted plates and dumbbells are 5 lb increments apart (exception: I saw 12.5 lb dumbbells). The machines don't have much weight to adjust in-between levels either. It's like I entered an LA Fitness knock-off version... But for almost double the price. It's not good for progressive overload that way, and the gym can be pretty crowded. Also closes early on weekends at 7PM. But that could just be a general Santa Fe thing with everything closing early.
What started out as me excited to have found an LA Fitness replacement ended in sheer disappointment. At least the open space they have is decent. But I'd save money and go elsewhere... Other commercial gyms are in the same plazas as grocery stores nearby for...
Read moreI signed up for this gym last year and prepurchased personal training sessions, expecting to be able to use it as a commuter. The gym did not open on time and was several months behind schedule. Company policy said that I was not allowed to use the other gyms before this location opened. Covid hit before this gym was open, and still this gym was not open even when the locations in Abq opened. Then I got laid off, and I will have no reason to go to Santa Fe. Beside having no reason to go to Santa Fe, and this no reason for this particular gym as there are none near to me and I have no vehicle, I have no desire to use a gym during a pandemic.
I have been calling and leaving messages from the website for weeks without response. Today at around 11am I finally got ahold of someone who pulled up my membership and promptly told me they were with another customer and would call me right back. By the afternoon I spoke with a friend who has a friend who works at the gym, who said they would talk to someone when they went in at five. Sure enough, I finally got a call back around 5:10. When I said that Iâd be. trying to cancel my membership for quite some time, I was questioned as to when I had called - as if I were supposed to be keeping a log - because they always call back. I could not believe she accused me of lying! When I got angry, she told me âIâm trying to help youâ but Iâm not sure what kind of help that was. When I told her how frustrating it is that sheâd tell me that after telling me sheâd call right back at 11 and wait until I had to call someone to call someone to tell her to call me, she told me nobody told her to call me - but given the time and the time the person who could help said they could help, I find that very difficult to believe.
Nevertheless, I was told it would cost $99 to cancel my membership - the one Iâve never been able to use due to their not opening on time and the pandemic. They never mentioned anything about refunding the money from my personal training, so I can only assume they will pocket that as well. I am so disgusted by how this gym is handling this situation. Their inability to open on time is not my problem, if I had gotten to use the gym even once I would have no problem paying for it - but thatâs not the case. But they refuse to clean up after...
