In the interest of fairness, I'm updating this review. Please see the end for the resolution to our problems. Beware "free" gifts" and the fine print.
We purchased a couple of mattresses for our split King bed, partly based on the return policy. I have issues with chronic pain from an accident, so being able to test a mattress for an extended period of time is really helpful.
Unfortunately, they didn't work out, and we decided to go another route. That's when we found out how much doing business with Denver Mattress felt like going to a less-than-reputable used car dealer.
We'd been given a ton of "free" bedding and pillows when we bought the mattresses, and most of it went into storage unopened. We used some, expecting that we'd have to pay for it, as fair is fair. HOWEVER, when we returned the mattresses, the fine print said that we'd be charged for "gifts", apparently even the unopened ones. Which, frankly, is sleazy. Period. I don't mind paying for something I use, but paying for something we never even opened is wrong.
Well, so be it. Andrew, who was so very helpful when we wanted to spend money, changed his tune and was pretty unpleasant for the return, even telling my spouse that we were lucky, most places don't take back split kings. To which I say, "Hey, I don't care. You said you'd take them back, and that's what you do. Don't complain."
Sometimes things don't work out, and that's just part of retail. How you behave when events don't go your way is as important as when they do. Otherwise, people write reviews like this to inform others of what to expect. I don't like the idea of giving a one-star review, but in this case, it seems warranted.
All in all, not the best experience. If you do decide to purchase a mattress there, I strongly suggest not taking any "free" gifts unless you are sure you're not going to return them. And, be aware that it'll cost you $100 to have them pick the mattress back up. Which is fine, but it was another "buried" bit in the contract. UPDATE: After some discussions with Andrew, we reached a resolution that satisfied us. We were reimbursed for the items that we had not used, and even though we did not request it, we were reimbursed for a few other things as well. It was, in the end, a fair resolution.
As a result, I've updated the rating to three stars from one. I cannot go further than that, given not only the work we had to do to straighten things out, but also the less-than-clear process of purchase and return if the mattress doesn't suit your needs.
Hey, I get it: businesses exist to make money. There's nothing at all wrong with that. But, I'd prefer clarity in the process. Maybe obfuscation boosts sales, but it doesn't make any friends in the process.
I will add that while trying different options, we had some similar issues with another store. The mattress we wanted needed time to be fulfilled, and we were saddled with a $400 "protective" cover that we never even unwrapped. When we decided not to complete the mattress order, they told us we were stuck with the cover, even though it's factory sealed.
The lesson from all of this: Take your time and really read the contracts. Ask questions, and if the answers aren't clear, think hard about what...
Read moreAfter some extensive searching in town, we ended up stopping in at Denver mattress to look at their selection of traditional coiled mattresses. My mom is 87 years old, and she is used to a specific type of a bed. She does not like the memory foam beds because they're much too soft. She wanted to be able to purchase a traditional style mattress. After going to the big box stores here in town we were unable to find her what she needed all they pretty much provided was beds in boxes and memory foam mattresses with tons of corrugated foam options, never any of them being firm enough for her liking.upon arriving to denver mattress, we were greeted by andrew, who was very friendly and understanding about the price range We had to stick to, he was able to find a mattress in store and in stock, WOW! We were able to purchase it right then And there and take it home that day, no pesky waiting or delivery charges For my mom, she was extremely happy with the service that we received, as was I andrew was very thorough about explaining the policies that denver mattress keep in place for their customers So that they will be happy with their purchase, he was good about offering a mattress protector with purchase so that the mattress will be covered for thirty days, just In case mom decides, she is unhappy with it. After sleeping on it for as long as she's had it now. She is very happy with her purchase. So we don't feel as though there's going to be any need for a return or exchange. Thank you so much, Andrew for your knowledge As well as your kind demeanor we were very impressed with our service and thank you, denver mattress. We look forward to doing business with you again Very soon! As my husband and I are definitely in need of a new...
Read moreVery quick and painless experience. Lots of choices, friendly employees, and good prices. Their firm Telluride mattress was the most comfortable out of all the mattresses I tried in the store. It was really supportive but not hard. They deliver all over the Santa Fe area and nearby towns.
Edit: Delivery was great. It only took 4 days for my mattress to get to the store and then they set up delivery for 2 days later (on a Sunday which was really convenient for me). They were right on time with the delivery and the guys setting it up were fast and did a good job. It was pouring rain when they delivered it but they kept the mattress dry.
I really like the Telluride ultra firm so far (I find most mattresses way too soft, but this one is actually firm). The foundation is also great and the frame is sturdy with extra support, 6 wheels, and doesn't creak. The pillows that came with it are ok. They are high quality but not my preferred type of pillow.
I'm so glad they got an ordered mattress to me in just 6 days because I was suffering on my old mattress. (Also they do 1-2 day delivery for some mattresses they have already in the store, but mine had...
