Dear Parents of Morgan Wixson Theater Participants,
I am writing to express my serious concern regarding an incident that occurred earlier today, Wednesday, May 21st, at approximately 10:30 am outside the Morgan Wixson Theater.
As I was walking my service dog past the theater after an event concluded, I encountered a large group of children, numbering over 20, who were standing and jumping around on the public sidewalk, effectively blocking it completely. They were accompanied by several adults who did not seem to be supervising them responsibly.
The crowded and chaotic scene made it difficult and frankly terrifying to navigate the sidewalk with my service dog. There was no alternative route, and stepping onto the busy Pico Boulevard would have been extremely dangerous.
When I politely requested that the adults move the children to allow passage, one woman, who appeared to be a parent or chaperone, came out of the theater and began to verbally attack me and my dog. This individual was short, of dark, chunky build, and appeared to be of Asian or Hispanic descent. She became very aggressive, used vulgar language in front of the children, and started recording me after I pointed out the inappropriateness of her behavior.
It is deeply troubling that a parent or chaperone associated with the theater would behave in such a manner, especially in front of young children. Furthermore, I have frequently observed groups from the theater obstructing the public sidewalk. Allowing children to roam freely and block pedestrian access on a busy street like Pico Boulevard is incredibly dangerous. I have also witnessed parents blocking the sidewalk with their vehicles, forcing pedestrians into the street.
Parents, if you care about the safety of your children, please address this behavior. The current lack of supervision and disregard for public access is putting children at risk of accidents, including potential dog attacks or being struck by a vehicle. The chaperones should be ensuring the children are lined up and safe, not allowing them to engage in horseplay that blocks the sidewalk in a busy area. The fact that an adult associated with the theater would resort to vulgar language and attack a pedestrian is unacceptable and sets a terrible example.
I urge you to address these issues with your children and with the theater administration to ensure the safety and well-being of all involved, as well as respect for public spaces.
Sincerely, A...
Read moreWe just love the Morgan-Wixson Theatre. It is located in Santa Monica and there are some good places for lunch or dinner nearby. You can't take food into the theater and there is usually no concessions, so eat before you go.
This is a semi-professional theater and the cast is always great. The shows for kids are amazing, called the YES program and the adult or all family shows are wonderful. We have been several times now and we have never had anything but a great time. The prices are reasonable, just go to their website to find what is playing.
The customer service is just the best. I think it is mostly a volunteer staff and they are just wonderful.
There is not a bad seat in the house. It is a small theater, maybe holding 300 or so people. You will feel safe there because they still ask you to wear your mask-thank goodness.
The seats are comfortable and the place is always super clean.
Parking is free in a lot about 300 feet from the front of the theater or there is street parking, but mind the signs.
We just love this place and...
Read moreThis was one of the worst experiences I have ever had and I didn't even get to host my show there. I contacted the theatre to try and book a show. I made contact on Sunday and the manager Bill said that he would be sending over rates and info to me. I never received an email so I followed up on Wednesday and it upset him very much. He said that if time is of the essence (mind you I waited 4 days to follow up) that I should find another theatre. He said he was too buys and unable to send an email. He became highly irritated and nasty towards me and said he double checked and it turns out he has no availability the week I was interested in a show. On Sunday he said he had ALL days of inquiry available. I asked how many days I might need to wait for the email and he once again said, "if time is of the essence, you should go elsewhere." I was almost speechless. I asked if I could speak to his manager and he said he didnt have one and then ridiculed me for calling the parent company the Santa Monica Theatre Group rather...
