I am in complete shock and utter disappointment with Western Farm Center in downtown Santa Rosa! The chickens and other fowl are living in terrible conditions! Most of them were out of food and living in cramped, cold spaces! I bought 9 chickens from them, all of which have severe respiratory infections! They are coughing, sneezing, and have mucus coming out of their noses and ears! They passed this bacterial infection onto my flock, nearly killing one of my hens, who is now on strong oral antibiotics! All the chickens I purchased from Western farm are all sick, which is no wonder because they are all malnourished, freezing, living in cramped spaces, and under a bunch of stress! When I was there, 2 giant roosters were cramped in a tiny cage together, and one was literally trying to kill the other one!! There were also kids screaming and yelling in the fowl area with employees around, and they didn’t stop them! They were terrifying all the poor animals! The employees clearly have no idea of how to handle the foul because they grab the chickens by their legs, dragging them out, often catching their wings on the cage doors as they’re being ripped out, and two of the chickens I got were so mishandled that they have severe limps! These poor animals are being kept in terrible condition, and Western Farm needs to be held...
Read moreAfter the response from owner Trevor here I changed from 1 star to 5. He showed the kind of customer service I expect. I don’t mind mistakes. I do mind not fixing them. Impeccable job here, Trevor. We’’ll be back. Besides, my wife loves your store. My original comment: A balding clerk behind the counter began yelling at my wife through his mask. He was not understandable but we thought he said “next”. Turns out he was yelling “mask. You need a mask!” My wife told him she was leaving and that I would handle the business but he kept insisting on the mask. (My wife had forgot hers.) Finakky, a nice male clerk slipped a mask to my wife. Why couldn’t the other guy do that instead of getting agitated and rude? We made sure we waited for the guy who gave the mask because he was friendly. That balding clerk needs some training in customer service. My wife made a mistake but he didn’t need to disrespect her. (I describe him so the owner can identify who I am talking about, not as an insult.) Ironically, the man who delivered our stuff to our car was weary NT his mask below his nose. Why doesn’t the clerk yell at HIM! Very rude. There are other stores that sell what these guys do but we drive 20 miles for them. We will think twice...
Read moreStaff is very insightful on care giving to our animals. It helps when you can't always afford to run to the vet. Wound care is something I was worried about and the woman who I didn't catch her name told me to let it be if there is no other signs of infection and not to wrap it because the bad stuff needs to come out. Turns out she was right and once I quit dressing one on my cat's leg he started to heal. I was about to spend a small fortune on wraps, ointments, and tape when she informed me that it is better to air it out. So instead I went and bought some toys for my little cat and pine pellets for his litter box and was much more relaxed about care giving to an injured cat. I was very grateful and it is nice to know that the animal comes before the sale. I wish I knew her name. Next time I see her I will definitely let her know that she is one of the good ones out there. Western farms is a great local feed store. I love the smells in there too. Well...
