We were recently in Santa Rosa on vacation and had breakfast at The Omelette Express. It was a quick walk from the Hyatt Regency where we stayed in the historic railroad district.
The restaurant had very cool decor with old car fronts mounted on the wall and other eclectic items in abundance. The menu was, appropriately, railroad themed (which, as a rail geek, I loved!).
I had the build-your-own omelette, which I got with cheese, mushrooms, spinach, and shrimp. It was served with breakfast potatoes, and I added a side of turkey sausage. The omelette was large and very good, but because my office cafe has an omelette station, it just did not reach the level that I am used to at work. Had it not been for that, I think I would have liked it much more. The turkey sausages were three huge links. They were too sweet for my tastes, unfortunately.
My only real complaint was that it was eye-wateringly expensive. With tip, we spent $75 for two for a relatively straightforward breakfast. While the food was good, it simply was not worth the price. Some of that is just the reality of California, but it seemed overpriced even...
Read moreThis place ticks all the boxes. It’s a breakfast/lunch place that owns its place in the market. Our server, Alysa, was friendly in that welcoming way that lets you know she is going to take care of you. They offer a full espresso menu so I got my morning burst of sugar with a mocha and my hubby got an extra shot in his cappuccino. The menu is pretty extensive for a breakfast place. I had the traditional eggs Benedict, my hubby had a breakfast scramble with linguisa (he’s half Portuguese so he sees linguisa as a treat) Moving on, the food was out faster than most drive thru services. It was served hot, house made, and fresh. They even bake the bread daily. I had a bite of the wheat sourdough and was amazing. (I might suffer for the gluten, but it was worth it) The building itself is old, spotless, and full of nostalgia. There are 1950’s automobile front grills hung high the walls, old photos of the building, and bicycles between the healthy plants hung around the dining...

I always eat one of two types of Omelettes, along with Country Fried Potatoes (Perfectly Seasoned, btw), and they have always achieved my high expectations over many years. Also, the Sourdough Toast is a must!
It's worth noting that the original owner, Don, is often onsite, and we all know this makes all the difference to quality and service!
I was told today that he is in Korea prepping the new Restaurant there. But for those of us here, it makes no matter whether you're in Santa Rosa or Windsor, both sites are Excellent, as they are carefully managed by either he or his wife!
Enjoy the Service and the Food. You cant go wrong here!
