This is my home disc golf course, but there are so many disc golf courses in the Tampa Bay area that it’s tough for it to be my exclusive haunt. If you’re traveling south out of Bradenton on US 41 or 301 Blvd approaching the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport you will undoubtedly spot the bulb-shaped white water tower that dominates the site. The park sits right in the middle of a residential neighborhood but this has never been a real issue while playing - it’s disc-golfing protocol to keep an eye out for non-players on courses that share space with the public, and you wouldn’t want to hit anyone with a stray throw! There is a small playground and a couple of small pavilions - and bathrooms (but beware; the bathrooms are not always available). The course itself is laid out quite nicely along the open grassy areas and the wooded areas and is probably not real challenging for good players (of which I’m not) but it does host tournaments and other local club events on a regular basis. It might be the most popular disc golf course in the area, so bring your discs and give it a whirl (no pun intended!). Sun King Discs is not that far north near 301 which provides the opportunity to pick up...
Read moreWent for the disc golf as an out of area first timer. Let me start by saying I truly appreciate Rec Departments for providing FREE facilities. I know the pressure is on to give services to a diverse bunch of groups with a limited budget, so I'm always happy when I have a good FREE experience!
The grounds crew had done a great job of mowing, cutting, and clearing brush. The holes were NOT marked as well as I would have liked, so I got misdirected a few times. Regular users and anyone using an app probably rolled their eyes, but I like a course to be intuitive and easy to use.
Lots of trees... in fact, too many were cluttering the fairway, not that I spent much time there. There were also a lot of homeless people and dog walkers wandering the trails that came into play since my game sux, at best! As far as the few courses I've played, this was actually a 3 star course, but I had a great time, so I give it 4 for the whole experience.
Overall, I had a lot of fun! Did I mention...
Read moreThe park was awesome but a little FYI you need to get some type of permit in order to have the restrooms unlocked for any kind of event that you maybe have having at the park. I was not informed of this information when having our family reunions scheduled to be at this location. When I called the city to reserve the Pavilion they told me it was first come first serve. But no one ever informed me that I needed a permit of any kind in order to have the restrooms unlocked by the city of Sarasota. But after making a few phone calls, I was able to have the restrooms opened because I was not informed correctly. After many months of planning, I thought, I was completely prepared. I did not anticipate running into lock restrooms as a problem. But a supervisor by the name of Matt was very accommodating as well as Mr Carl. Thanks to them, I was a hero at the family reunions for having the...
