Um. So, it’s a gym located at the Square One Mall. I said “at” because you’re not going to find it INSIDE the mall. The entrance is located underneath the parking lot, facing another ground level parking lot, which is very convenient.
I remember this location from a while back –
There used to be a Gold’s Gym here but I never went inside. I heard CRAZY stories from Gold’s Gym. This included psychopathic juice heads threatening you with violence if you didn’t move from a bench after one set, terrible bathrooms with broken toilets and water everywhere, broken, or missing locker doors, rampant thievery, and broken machines. Of course, this was when Gold’s Gym was losing market value and not as popular.
Now there’s Ultraflex Gym. A red and black brand taking over the space. Here’s my experience –
When I came in, I noticed the place was VERY SPACIOUS. You’ll notice the cool artwork on the walls and a small merch shop on your left.
Membership can be a little pricey. It’s about market rate, but would you rather spend $200 per month at LIFE TIME or $49.99?
Specifically, if you join, you’ll be paying last month’s and first month’s dues, both at $49.99, which equals roughly $98.08 due at signing. Then a $49.99 maintenance fee due ninety days after opening.
ALSO, after joining, you’re trapped for 12 months for $49.99 per month. Sheesh!
There are some treadmills overlooking the rest of the gym with others in the back against a wall. The black, bulky treadmills overlooking the gym are the best. Unfortunately, they don’t have fans, so you’ll end up sweating a storm.
Most of the machines are colored red and black. There are other machines that are colored white. Some in front of the treadmills and others upstairs.
Yeah, there’s a SECOND FLOOR. More machines for you to play with.
The locker rooms were a bit of a mess. A watery mess. Massive puddles of water sit on the counters. So be careful setting your phone down. The lockers themselves were alright, but a little strange. They have a little nook for your shoes in the bottom.
Now for the machines……
Bruh, some machines for the legs are awful. There’s this lying hamstring curl machine, but it requires you to be at an awkward position with your elbows and forearms. I tried using it, but gave up after 7 reps.
Then there’s this other machine that’s a two-for-one. Oh man! So, you sit down on this thing and you decide whether you want hamstring curls or leg extensions. NEITHER option proved viable. I really didn’t feel the workout. Lame!
There were some squat racks, but the floor proved to be a little difficult. I’m used to doing squats with a wooden platform underneath. A HARD surface. This however, felt like squatting on air pockets. TERRIBLE!
Okay, not everything was bad though. There was this awesome leg press machine that you push against this aluminum DIAMOND plate sheet. This machine really took me back to high school!
Overall, the only machines/stations that looked good were the dumbbell racks, the benches, the black bulky treadmills, the deadlift area WITH the wooden platforms, and some leg press machines.
Nah, I don’t think I see myself becoming a permanent member.
Now, I said the gym was spacious, but even though they opened in 2022, more and more people are becoming aware that there’s a new gym at the mall. So, expect a growing crowd. And quite possibly, THE RETURN of those psychopathic juice heads threatening you with violence if you didn’t move from a bench after one set.
Thanks. Have...
Read moreVery packed, not enough weights, or clips to go around at peak hours & the music is way too damn loud.. I can barely hear my own music out of the headphones in my ears over their music blasting over the speakers. Gym also needs some serious TLC in the locker rooms and around. It just has a dirty unkept appearance. Also.. allowing filming is not a good idea it just takes up room, makes other members uncomfortable and it causes the filmer to completely take over an entire area of the gym rather than sharing it like they are suppose too.. It really could easily be 5 stars if they just addressed these few simple things and if they ever do address these problem areas I will gladly update my review.
Edit: owners response below warrants another star because they do care. Although when i say more equipment i dont mean machines i mean literal barbells, clips & 45's..the accessories. Regardless the gym has seen explosive growth and I understand that may be difficult to keep up with. Youre right it is one of the best...
Read moreIf I could give a 4.95 stars out of 5, I would. I love the atmosphere and energy that UltraFlex gives off. I've never participated in the personal training but from what I have seen on social media, it seems fantastic. The employees are also welcoming and friendly! The gym is always clean and machines are kept up very well. Where they lose the .5 star is that sometimes (depending on the time that you go to the gym) the filming that happens between members can be distracting and a bit frustrating at times. There isn't much that the gym could do to combat this but it is just food for thought if you are thinking about joining, at the least I recommend getting a day pass and trying out all of the sick equipment that they have. I am also looking forward to the huge expansions they have...
