The Savannah Riverwalk is a beautiful and vibrant spot to spend the day, offering stunning scenery and a chance to see large cargo ships passing through the river—something you don’t see every day. It’s a great place to stroll, take in the views, and enjoy the charm of Savannah.

One of the highlights is the variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options, especially around the Plant Riverside District, which has really set the standard with its upscale dining and shopping. The south side of the Riverwalk is also improving with new construction, but it’s still catching up and feels a bit quieter by comparison.

However, there are a few downsides. Street vendors are scattered throughout the area, and while some offer impressive handmade crafts and unique artwork, others seem to be selling items purely for profit, which can detract from the experience. Additionally, you’ll notice a few homeless individuals sleeping along the Riverwalk, which, combined with the lack of a noticeable police presence despite the heavy foot traffic, can make it feel unsafe, especially at night. If you’re visiting after dark, it’s best to avoid going alone unless you’re well-prepared.

Overall, the Riverwalk is a wonderful destination for shopping, dining, and sightseeing during the day. It’s a place where history, scenery, and city life come together, and with ongoing improvements, it will only get better. Just plan accordingly to ensure you have the...

My sister lives over by Pooler and she always takes us down by the river walk. It's easy to navigate for us because my mother is in a wheelchair. And the River Walk is laid out very nicely right on the river. There is great views of the ships and the river and the beautiful bridge I love that it has little shops and we always stop at a really cool burger place that has fantastic food We went there the other day and it wasn't busy at all which made it a special treat If you go over on Riverwalk where all the stores are you'll definitely be kept busy if you like to shop and you are a tourist But the Riverwalk is a special walk that just has all different kinds of people and is a very nice stroll on any...

The Savannah River Walk is the heart of a special downtown and I think, a jewel of entire US. I find it slightly preferable to Charleston or even The French Quarter. I feel every worthy traveler should share time in this lovely city. So, start here, at the river walk, maybe take a tour and get your bearings. Experience the rest of downtown. And, while you’re there be sure to say, “Bonswa” to Jean Claude Martin and maybe...
