The south side of the Riverwalk is also improving with new construction, but it’s still catching up and feels a bit quieter by comparison.

Additionally, you’ll notice a few homeless individuals sleeping along the Riverwalk, which, combined with the lack of a noticeable police presence despite the heavy foot traffic, can make it feel unsafe, especially at night. My sister lives over by Pooler and she always takes us down by the river walk. It's easy to navigate for us because my mother is in a wheelchair. And the River Walk is laid out very nicely right on the river. The Savannah River Walk is the heart of a special downtown and I think, a jewel of entire US. I find it slightly preferable to Charleston or even The French Quarter.
