We love Kimpton hotels, but this was one of the worst experiences we've ever had at ANY hotel. . First of all - the SMELL. The building was built in the 1860s and is in desperate need of a major renovation. The smell of mildew permeates the entire hotel, but it was so strong in our room that we almost left. . Also, the humidity. Despite turning the air conditioner down as low as it would go, the rooms are so humid that you feel sticky and uncomfortable the entire time. . The beds are terrible, and the pillows are even worse. Between the smell of mildew, the humidity in the rooms, and the god-awful beds, we were up all night and got no sleep. . The next morning, we were hoping to at least get a good cup of coffee. All the other Kimpton hotels we have stayed and have a beautiful coffee bar set up. What you get here is lukewarm bad coffee with few cream and sweetener options. There are also no microwaves in the room, so there is no way to heat up the coffee that's basically cold after you add cream. . Our room was disgusting - yes disgusting! We ran our hand over the tops of the TV stand, dressers, and tables, and they were covered in dust, dirt, and grime. The floors were even worse. The bottom of our feet and our socks were gross after walking around the room. The cup that was on the sink (that I assume was to rinse your mouth) had a sticky residue in the bottom and hair stuck to it. The black soap dish was white with soap scum that you could scrape off with your finger, and they just put a new bar of soap on top of it. Dirt was built up in all the corners of the floor, which could have easily been vacuumed up with the most basic of cleanings. It was gross. We took pictures of everything. . The atrium outside of the lobby is beautiful, but it looked like a party scene the next morning. There was leftover food and alcohol bottles everywhere, and the staff hadn't bothered to clean anything up by 10 AM. . The lobby is extremely small! We LOVE animals, however, when we checked in, they were having their wine social AND a bake sale in what is already too small of a space. Large dogs were everywhere. We love dogs, but there doesn't need to be dogs roaming around a tiny lobby packed full of people when other guests are trying to come in with their luggage and get checked in. . At a five star hotel that charges five star prices for everything (including parking AND internet), you would expect a clean room, a decent cup of coffee (or the ability to make your own), and for the breakfast area to be cleaned from the partying the night before. . Also - someone was SLEEPING on a booth inside the hotel restaurant the morning we came down for coffee, clearly visible to everyone to see. . Valet parking is also ridiculously priced at $45 a NIGHT, especially since they park the cars 20 feet away. I could've parked my own car, saved $45 a NIGHT, saved the stress of having to unload all of my bags on the street, and walked back to the lobby in 60 seconds. That's how close the parking lot is, and you do not have the option to park your car yourself. The valet looked at me like I was speaking another language when I simply asked where we unloaded the car, which also would've been a perfect opportunity for him to offer to help - and he did not. . The entire stay was stressful. There are many other beautiful hotels within just a few blocks of the Kimpton. Please listen to all the reviews and stay somewhere else! . To the person that is responding to these reviews with the same copy and pasted apology, perhaps you should actually relay these issues to the management, so they can make some improvements. Based on all the reviews both here and on other platforms, you have known about the cleanliness issues for a long time. . Having said all of that, the woman we dealt with at the front desk was fantastic and made this right for us, but I still felt it was only fair to warn other travelers, especially given the fact that the lack of cleanliness seems to be a problem that has been going on for a while without any...
Read moreI'm a fan of Kimpton hotels and have stayed at a number of them in cities all over the U.S. So I was excited when planning a vacation in Savannah that one existed here. Unfortunately, the overall experience was not up to the standards and amenities I'd experienced at every other Kimpton I'd been to and, if returning to Savannah I would stay somewhere else.
The hotel is on the edge of the historic district...yes it's across the street from what will eventually be an expanded River District, but it's not there yet, so it's probably a 10 minutes(ish) walk to get to the center of anything on the river or most of the sites and restaurants in the center of everything. That wouldn't have bothered us so much if the hotel was a better experience.
They do have the famous Kimpton wine hour at 5pm, though, unlike every other Kimpton we've been to, they serve the wine in plastic cups instead of glasses which didn't feel quite as nice. The lobby is smartly decorated with books etc and is cool to hang out in.
Our room was a King Jr. Suite (room 229 in case anyone on board wants to check any of the following out) These rooms are accessed by an outside hallway, whereas much of the other hotel room's doors are accessed by air-conditioned hallways...so we found the room was fighting the humidity quite a bit. In fact our room felt damp from the moment we first checked in...it smelled a little musty and the carpet itself was the slightest bit damp. This bled over into the bedroom where after being out in humid Savannah all day, the sheets in our bed never felt exactly dry leading to uncomfortable sleep. (We stayed in 2 other humid cities on this trip and did not have this issue in either hotel including another Kimpton.)
I hate to use words that feel exaggerated in reviews, but housekeeping here was terrible. During our 4 night stay, after the third night, we noticed our room hadn't been serviced at all. Not cleaned, no bed made, bathroom items not restocked and no new towels. Literally, no one from housekeeping had set foot in our room during those first three nights.
We called down on the first night to get an extra pillow and blanket. No one every brought us an extra pillow or blanket.
On our second day we noticed the iron was not working. We called down to ask for a new iron. No new iron was ever brought to our room.
The bathroom itself was nice...we liked the large walk in shower with soaking tub. But a few little oddities...there were bars of soap, but no soap dish so after using it, it would stick to the counter. We ended up make-shifting a soap dish with the cardboard that the soap came in which housekeeping didn't attend to. There was a box of facial tissue, but not in a tissue box of any kind...just a generic brand cardboard box of tissues sitting on the counter...which almost ran out while we were there.
In the lobby, the fruit-infused water which we love from all our other Kimpton stays (including another one later on in this trip) was almost always empty. I recall coming back to the hotel after a full day or evening out on 3 separate days and the water being completely out. It's a tiny container too which we noticed when we were there and which was accentuated when we want to another Hilton later on in this trip to see a huge water container which was never empty. The first time I noticed it empty I asked the person behind the front desk and he said that he had just filled it but lots of people came down and filled up large water containers. (And they were out of water bottles.) Okay, I guess that was an issue, but since we encountered again, empty, 2 more times on 2 different days, maybe they should realize they're not meeting their customer's needs with what...
Read moreWe have stayed at the Kimpton Brice several times and usually really, really enjoy our stay. Unfortunately, we were not able to enjoy our most recent stay (July, 2023). We typically reserve a one bedroom suite and this time I decided to try the spa suite, which doesn’t seem like it was a good choice. It’s still a one bedroom suite but, with a soaking tub and a European shower - which all looked quite relaxing but, we were unable to even try to relax and enjoy it. First, since my husband has some health issues, one of the reasons I reserve suites is because they are often in a quiet area of the hotel. I was quite surprised to find that the spa suite was located on an exterior walkway which turned out to be a main thoroughfare. We could hear luggage carts being pushed back and forth, loud noises, a few loud crashes (never did figure out what those were) well into the night. Additionally, the spa suite is located right across from the ice machine. Convenient if you use a lot of ice, not so great if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing evening (which I was). I have never stayed in a room near an ice machine before so, I was quite unprepared for the amount of noise there is associated with someone obtaining ice - and it was a hot day so, the ice machine stayed quite busy! With the constant noise from the traffic past the room, coupled with the noise from the ice machine, there was no way to use the living room area of the suite and no way for us to relax. I definitely will not reserve the spa suite again and unless you have some excellent noise canceling earphones, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else either. There may be other spa suites within the hotel that are in a quieter location but, since we are platinum elite members, and accordingly should actually receive an upgrade, if available, I would not expect to be given the absolute worst location of the room category I had actually reserved and paid for. This leads me to believe that if there are other spa suites, they are similarly located and therefore not a great idea to reserve. Since the hotel was probably sold out on this busy weekend, I really didn’t expect an upgrade but, I also didn’t expect to be given such a terrible location. Additionally, when we entered the room, everything was unplugged and we had to crawl around and plug everything back in - not a huge issue and nothing worth calling the front desk about but, since in the middle of the night the temperature still had not dropped from what it was when we entered, I think there must have been some known issues with this room so, again.. just surprised to be put in that location. I will add that we did not call the front desk about the noisy location because we had already unpacked when we realized the situation and with the hotel being very busy, knew our chances of moving to a better location were very low. However, we did call the front desk after listening to our neighbors bouncing a ball off the wall that adjoined our bedroom for an hour. Shortly after we called the front desk, the ball games stopped for awhile and we were thankful that the front desk had apparently intervened. However, 30 minutes later, the ball games started again so, we just went out for a late dinner and thankfully, it had stopped when we returned. All in all, we usually enjoy this hotel but, we’re extremely disappointed with our most recent stay. Being loyal IHG members, I had hoped for a little better - especially with what we paid for...
