Initially the hotel looks very nice. The decor is very upscale and does look nice. However, in the room, even though the design is attractive, there are several glaring issues that I had with it. Small details that are not noticed at first until you try to actually use the room for anything other than sleeping. No bedside clock. I know I know...who uses a clock anymore when you have your cellphone. Well, despite having a higher end retro radio on the nightstand, no clock. So have fun grabbing your phone in the night to find out what time it is. No alarm either therefore, but I can use my phone for that. The in-room Desk has ZERO plug in's. None! There is one outlet underneath the desk but mine was 100% used by the Nespresso machine and the lamp. So, nowhere on or near the desk to plug in a laptop, phone charger, etc. The plug ins on the bedside tables were so small that only 1 power brick could fit at a time. Even the standard small white cube Apple block covered the other plug in space on each outlet meaning you could only use one. Major fail by Hyatt in 2023. No iron or ironing board. They have jumped on the bandwagon of Steamers which accomplish several things, however pressing wrinkles from clothes is NOT one of them. They DO accomplish the objective of saving the hotel $$ on the cost of real irons and boards. The bathroom looks very nice. But in the shower they have gone with the free-standing 500ml bottles of shampoo/soap/shower gel. Not attached to the wall like many hotels have, but sitting freely on the tile in the wall cutout in the shower. Because of this setup they have an insulting card on the sink counter that says these products are for your use while a guest and that you can buy them for $50 each! Translation: take them with you and we will add $50/bottle to your bill. OK fine..I would never "steal" them from the room. But here was the real problem at least in my room's shower. The tile bottom of the wall cutout was slanted towards the front. That's on purpose to drain water so actually that's how it should be. BUT, it made it IMPOSSIBLE for the $50 bottles to actually stay in the cutout when wet. As soon as the water started splashing around the shower the heavy shampoo bottles slid out and hit the floor, breaking the pump on 1 of them. POOR DESIGN! Bolt them to the wall like every other hotel that doesn't have small disposable bottles of product. There is (suppossed to be) a motion activated light that is under the bathroom vanity. The switch on the wall that is "supposed" to control it has a motion detector face built in. Maybe it was just my room but that light never worked by motion or the switch for more than 2 seconds at a time. Would not come on from motion in the dark, would not stay on for more than 2 seconds when manually activated. IF you're going to have fancy features in the room make sure they work.
Overall a very attractive hotel when you first arrive but Hyatt has very clearly gone for trendy initial appearance over function and useability in almost every area. Overall very...
Read moreDO NOT BOOK Through Priceline or Stay at Thompson Hotel Savannah — SCAMMED and IGNORED as a PAYING Customer
I never leave reviews, but after this experience, I feel obligated to warn others. I booked what I thought would be a relaxing getaway through Priceline to stay at the Thompson Hotel in Savannah. It turned out to be nothing short of a complete nightmare that left me feeling scammed, ignored, and completely disrespected as a paying customer.
First off, Priceline somehow processed my reservation with the wrong date — to this day, I’m still unclear how this even happened. The confirmation came through with the incorrect date, and the moment I noticed, I immediately reached out to both Priceline and the hotel to fix the issue. I wasn't asking for anything outrageous — just to correct the reservation to the date I originally intended, or to rebook it properly.
That’s when the blame game started.
I called Thompson Hotel Savannah, expecting at least a basic level of customer service from a supposedly "luxury" hotel. Instead, I was told bluntly that they were "not responsible" for this, because I booked through a third-party site, and I needed to take it up with Priceline. They also told me any changes would come with additional charges — even though I had contacted them IMMEDIATELY after noticing the error, well in advance of my trip.
So, I did what they suggested — I contacted Priceline.
Priceline, on their end, told me that the hotel ultimately has control over refunds or changes, and that they would try to help, but it would be up to Thompson Hotel to approve anything. I followed all the steps, filled out any forms they required, and waited.
Fast forward — TWO WEEKS LATER, I finally hear back, only to be told that the Thompson Hotel Savannah DENIED my refund or any adjustment. Mind you, I never stepped foot on their property, never used their services, never even arrived in the city for the reservation in question. They took my money — full payment — and basically washed their hands of the situation as if nothing happened.
What’s worse is the complete lack of accountability from both Priceline and the hotel. Both parties point the finger at each other, and as a customer, I’m left stuck in the middle — out of pocket and out of options. It’s clear they care more about keeping your money than providing any level of service or integrity.
I feel completely scammed and unheard. Neither company values their clients, and I wouldn't trust them with a single dollar of your hard-earned money. This experience has left a terrible taste in my mouth, and I’ll make sure to never book through Priceline again — and definitely never stay at the Thompson Hotel in Savannah.
If you’re considering booking this hotel, especially through a third-party site — DON’T. Protect your money and your peace of mind, because once they have your payment, they’ll turn their backs on you just like they...
Read moreThe Thompson was an all-around good experience. I found many things that I really liked, and some things that bothered me a bit. The location around it is all new and currently being built up, so a lot of the area is very fresh and manicured. When we drove up, we spoke to the valet and he did not seem very enthused about being there that afternoon. He gave us the claim ticket and I don't believe he even looked me in the eye. As it was our first introduction to the hotel, it stuck with me for the rest of the day. I was not part of the check-in but I found the "welcome beer" to be a very nice touch. The lobby interior was very schick as well and expansive. The bar, to me, was gorgeous and I liked the amount of windows that surrounded it. I did not get a chance to enjoy the rooftop. I did also explore the pool bar which seemed very nice. I was rather confused why it was in a large empty room, away from the pool, but the ladies there were very welcoming and were unbothered by my curiosity. The room we had was the best part. It was only a standard king, with a view of the apartments across the way, however, my travel companion could not get over the beauty of the bathroom, and I must admit it was well done. I liked the side seating area with the round table and the bed was rather comfy. Everything about the room was subtle but also fantastic. We ordered room service that night and everything we had was actually delicious. The morning, however, bothered me again as the pool music cut on around 8am to very loud funk, dance, and pop music. This was very noticeable to me as our room was right above the pool only a floor up. I would be fine with people utilizing the pool, however, the music so early was curious to me. If music would be played maybe something like oldies or something a little more relaxing in the morning. My companion slept in, so I partook in the breakfast. Besides the room, this was my favorite part of the hotel. The waitress was so kind and patient with me as I couldn't figure out what I wanted to eat. I also had a wonderful conversation with the breakfast chef's, two gentlemen that I wish I had their names. Not only were they very friendly but they whipped an AMAZING breakfast biscuit with gravy and eggs. The sauce was not too thick or thin and I was blown away with how everything complimented each other. Really, well done! The hotel was nearby River Street, however, in the heat it did seem a lot longer than the walk had called for. There was their house car service that we did not utilize, which would eliminate the need for walking, as well. Ultimately, I had a nice stay, and for a one-night stay some things were acceptable while others were tremendous. I think that I would stay at The...
