I take amtrak when I go to Vancouver BC in winter season. Please know that you can't catch the train if you go 30 minutes before the train departure time. So it's better to get to the station at least an hour in advance. When you get to the station, first prepare your ID(real ID)and ticket. When I'm done checking, they're giving me a declaration card. You NEED A PEN to write that paper, so don't forget. It's like an airport. All we have to do is wait for boarding. If you're going from Seattle to Vancouver, sit on the left side, and the view will be great. I recommend sitting on the right side on your way back. You can charge your cell phone on the train, but the speed is slow. Wi-Fi isn't very good, either. The train stops at Canada Border for officers to check documents and ID. You won't leave the train until you arrive at Pacific Station BC. There is a cafe on the train, but I don't recommend it. The last time I ordered a burger, it tasted bad because it was heated in the microwave. The ride takes 4 hours, so let's relax. It takes a little time to enter the country,...

There is zero signage that business class boards separately than the long coach line.
On the train:
We spent $180 on business class tickets, sat at the front of the train furthest away from the restrooms. That somehow did not hide the overwhelming stench of urine. As you made your way back to the restrooms, the stench only grew stronger. And once you were in the restroom, the smell can only be compared to that of the penguin exhibit at the zoo. It was cold outside, and with zero heat, the train was totally freezing.
As if being freezing and choking on the smell of urine for three hours wasn’t enough, I had at least hoped the WiFi would work in the business class section. If only to finish some work, which would have been difficult in those conditions, maybe to distract from them. But no, the WiFi didn’t work for majority of the trip.
I would’ve rather opted for cheap airline tickets. I had taken the Amtrak train from Vancouver to Seattle previously, and didn’t have this experience. Now I know...
Read moreI’ve ridden Amtrak before no problem. However this trip I’m taking the 518 train to Vancouver (going to Bellingham) and I was told that my electric scooter was okay to be a bike carry on because it was under 50 pounds. Inside staff was nice, outside different story. All of them had such a rude tone in voice which I thought “okay whatever I feel you” but I went to where I was suppose to board, sent to the back of the train to give them my scooter, only for the same ride last to say “that isn’t a bike” told her it said it was on the site and then proceeded to conicendly show me another bike someone had. Had only a minute left and hurried to my board section hyperventilating, no help getting onto the train itself, then the guy behind said “we’re aren’t supposed to take lithium electric scooters.” Awful awful! They probably just let me keep it on for the trip because i was literally struggling to talk and breathe. Guess I’m going back to the buses rather than the train and getting my...
