I don’t usually visit this dog park as a local, maybe twice a year since it opened. However, after my recent visit, I don’t plan on returning. I was rudely spoken to by someone claiming to be a 'veteran' and a 'service animal' owner (without a vest on the dog). When I simply asked if he thought his dog didn’t like the big dog area, I was met with an aggressive response. He quickly got defensive, assuming I had complained before, and interrupted me several times. He even mentioned calling someone named 'Bob Parker,' which was completely unnecessary. I left feeling very uncomfortable, especially since he continued to make rude remarks as I walked away.
It used to feel like a place where you could talk to fellow dog owners and enjoy some good old-fashioned southern hospitality, but with the recent influx of new people, that seems to have vanished. On top of that, the park is in need of maintenance—especially the large dog area, which could benefit from reseeding and general care. There also needs to be more amenities in the large dog area, such as benches or shaded spots, like those available in the small dog area.
UPDATE...I drive past the park several times a week, and most days, there are only large dogs in the small dog area. It’s clear that the city has no way of enforcing the small dog area rules and, from what I can tell, no intention of upgrading the park to better accommodate large dog owners with necessary amenities like seating or shade. It's unfortunate, as this used to be a much more welcoming and...
Read moreI worked in the area for a couple of months so this park became part of our daily routine. We visit dog parks all over the U.S. and I love the Pet Safe dog parks found in Tn. This one's no exception. My German Shepard needs daily excercise. It is fenced and off leash. There is parking reserved for the dog park. There are three parks.1) Large dog and has a huge area, 2)small dogs has a really big area, and then a smaller area for dogs with mobility issues. I never saw a dog with mobility issues in there but me and others used it just to be alone. It is the only one not well shaded but does have a covered picnic table. Small and large dogs have play equipment, hills, water stations, poo bags, easy access garbage cans and plenty of shade and seating. Mobility issue section has poo bags and a watering station at the gate. There are two doggy fountains. They both have spickets on them so u can fill jugs up or cool ur dog down wash their feet off etc The people who regularly go there are all nice and friendly. The bathrooms are a lil skip away BUT there's a shallow creek that runs behind the pic nic tables so you can let ur baby have a quick dip in that cool water! It's worth the 40 second drive. I hope y'all enjoy it, too! Thank you Severville Pet...
Read moreAwesome place to bring your dogo’s. Its a large area with a separate section for small dogs. There are regulars like myself and pretty much always people who bring their dogs with them on vacation and need to let them run and play. As with any public dog park there is the occasional ignorant person who brings an overly aggressive or dominant dog and insists they are “friendly”. But hey, people are gonna be people. You can usually scout those types out either prior to entering the park or if you are already in the park you can get a good read on the dogs coming in on their approach from the parking lot. When I see that I simply leave. You cant reason with ignorance.
In the warm months there is a doggie drinking fountain in the staging area. And if you walk across the park, outside the fence, in the picnic area there is a creek where you can let them take a dip.
See you there if you go in...
