We have stayed many times at Birchwood in one of the townhomes and always enjoyed our stay but I think the units are starting to show their age. We usually request unit C2 as it has the screened in porch, and just spent 6 nights in it last week. We had received a call while on our way to Door County to say the front desk would close at 5pm and our keys would be taped to the front door. When we arrived, just after 6pm I looked and no keys. I tried the front door and it was open and Roman was indeed working, he was pleasant and welcoming as always. When we got to the unit we found that two lights in the living area were burned out, along with a light in the guest bathroom. The plunger in the guest bathroom sink was not working properly so it wouldn’t hold any water. I think the beds in both bedrooms need to be replaced. The mattresses are anything but comfortable and the beds creak with every movement. Given there is no service provided during the stay, totally understandable because of covid, and also no breakfast items provided as in the past, I think prices could be slightly reduced to reflect these services not being provided. It’s great that the unit has a washer and dryer but no laundry detergent is provided. The main issue we had this time with the C2 unit was what appeared to be black mold on the walls of both bathrooms and on the skirting board in the on-suite bathroom. This needs to be looked at as a matter of urgency. With similar units available in the area, Pheasant Park, and also the new Dorr Hotel, Birchwood does need to ensure they are keeping up standards. It’s a place we have great memories from past visits and hope to make many more in the future, if we can get value for the amount of money...
Read moreBoyfriend and I are repeat guests and stayed over Labor Day. The best thing about this place is the location -- walking distance to everything (gym, groceries, church, marina), yet far away from all the weekend music in downtown. The air conditioner is quite loud when it runs, but sleeping with the windows open wasn't much better, as there was quite a bit of traffic noise from the road. ||As others have mentioned, the decor could use some updating, but the kitchenette features are great -- we made every meal here for our 5 day stay. Large fridge, but definitely needs a freezer to re-freeze packs for the cooler. Could also use some towel bars near the sinks (had to drip water across the floor to reach towels on the far opposite wall), and either USB ports or outlet extenders by the beds, as there was no place to plug in and charge a phone.||Grills out back were great, but none of the directions for use mention checking if the gas line switch is open. I certainly had no idea about this, the young gal at the desk didn't know, and when she called Roman, he didn't suggest it either. Fortunately, another repeat guest was able to help out.||Would love it if the sauna and jacuzzi stayed open until 10 pm on weekends (closes at 9), and can't wait until they update the locks, as the old fashioned keys are a bit of a pain to carry in a slim wallet.||Overall a really good stay, and we...

I know these privately owned condos but if the owners are renting them out as part of Birchwood lodge, there should be some standard expectations.|The door on that bathroom also didn’t lock. |Given they have a washer and dryer in those units, they should also provide laundry tabs and dryer sheets.|Not sure what the situation is with housekeeping as I thought at check-in it said it was daily up until 3pm and if anything was needed after that, to call front desk. They did come in on the first day we were there, didn’t show up the next day and then I was called the next two days to see if I wanted them to come in. |When they did show up, it was 3 people and they spent probably less than 10 minutes in the unit. Only went into both bedrooms and bathrooms, did nothing in the kitchen, didn’t brush or vacuum any floor space. |Tennis court is in serious need of repair. Huge cracks on the surface which causes an issue. I know that would be an expense and the use of the court generate any income, but if you have it,...
