Northern Grill & Pub — Restaurant in Sister Bay

Northern pub and grill is something to behold here on the peninsula. It advertises itself as a pub and grill and has the bar astetic until you step into a dining area in the back. Now it's selection is Italian americano, with pizzas, pastas,salmon, calamari, whitefish and your typical pub burger.

Here's the odd part. They have an Italian selection but don't offer bread and olive oil to begin your meal. I guess that's them getting around labeling themselves as Italian. Whatever they are trying I guess. But then I see on the menu Spaghetti Bolognese, thier homemade sauce and add a Meatball for 5 dollars.

This totalled $29 for this dish. I obviously expected something to really show they are Italian americano especially with that price tag, however I got a bland tomato sauce which had little to no spice, as well as a mushy Meatball, also lacking in flavor. The pasta was on the thicker and tougher side so I disregard this as this is customer preference sometimes.

However having this $30 meal be as bland as it was is borderline criminal. It has SO much potential to be Italian, but if you come here, do not order this dish, you will be disappointed. I am unfortunately a tourist and will most likely not be visiting this establishment again until years later. Here's hoping your menu...

Reasonable prices, tried the greatest cheese curds ever and the okee dokee artichokey for appetizers and supreme pizza for dinner. The appetizers, one making a bold claim and the other using a more lackluster jokey phrasing were both delicious and I would order them again. Pizza was also very good, although after the appetizers my party didn't get through as much of it as we planned. Leftovers! Staff was friendly and energetic. Highly recommend. Covid guidelines: they just reopened last Thursday. The game room looked moderately sized but I did not go in, it was shut down for now for public safety. They require you wear a mask until you are seated, if you happen to be reading this in the parking lot and didn't bring one, don't fret- they'll sell you one at the door for a dollar. All staff masked up and barriers installed around the bar. Also noticed they had bags (or cornhole, depending on who raised you) and table tennis outside, unfortunately I did not notice these until I was leaving and am unable to verify if they are playable...

We've been to Northern Grill many times (usually just 2 of us), however last month I brought a group of 50 on a Thursday night. To say I was impressed with the food and service is an understatement! Leading up to the night, I worked with Lena to coordinate since the restaurant was also open for regular walk-in diners that night too. We arrived at 7:15pm and everyone was seated by 7:30pm (as promised). Drink orders were taken (Bartender Charlie was amazing getting them all out), food orders were taken and everyone enjoyed the cozy dining room space. As the food arrived, my guests got very quiet as they were all enjoying their delicious meals. I have to admit, I was a little nervous about bringing this large of a group during the start of peak season in Door County; however, Lena, Charlie and their amazing staff nailed it!
