I do travel extensively and we picked this place based on the reviews. We just got done staying August 27th to the 31st. If you are a younger person FYI this town shuts down EARLY. We wanted to go for a nice steak dinner and the restaurant was closed by 9 pm. along with many nearby food places so settled for the bowling alley across the street. (Which was pretty good). But here is my biggest problem , an elderly man wandered into our room because housekeeping LET him in . He wandered in at 9:15 am and said "oops I don't think this our room ! " as my fiance and I are laying in bed naked. Talk about being freaked out, we thought the voice was from outside our room not bedside !!! CRAZY !!!! Are you kidding me ??!!!! We even had the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door. So they just let anybody in any room ????? What if we were not there, what could have been missing ? Also they have a policy of only allowing children 10 years or older, Wed nite toddlers next door were crying and screaming at 11:15 pm at nite through the paper thin walls, which went on till midnight, apparently it was visiting time for the grand kids. No one at the front desk to complain to AGAIN ! When we went for tea or coffee there was no hot water or barely none, no honey packets left as no one replenished them. This was early as front desk was open but no one there AGAIN. And now the doozy...... the last nite my fiance' opened the tv cabinet drawer and found 2 pair of worn out old ladies panties in there!!! GROSS. (Which I took a picture of..below) and room service didn't vacuum nor change the sheets. Which scares me more upon seeing those panties were sitting in a drawer for 4 days and most likely longer.... disgusting ! There was visible cob/spider webs in multiple places where the ceiling and walls meet. How good is housekeeping..... to not clean these things AND let wandering people in your room ? SCARY ! Also, everyone was raving about the breakfast buffet (which is only served for 1 1/2 hour). When I think of "buffet", I think of more than 4 dishes. The only thing they served was runny scrambled eggs, dried out quiche, oatmeal, and a few slices of grapefruit. This was less than average. Breakfast is considered "complimentary", but has a sign on every table telling the customers that gratuity is not included. Also 2 microwaves in the whole place and for that many rooms to share and 10 year old tiny microwave in the hallway seems ridiculous. Wondering if some of these reviews were coaxed. For being a bed & breakfast, they were 0 for 2. The bed is extremely high, so much that they offer a step stool. I'm 6' tall and had trouble getting in and out of bed and almost sprained my ankle. I feel bad for the many people that are much older. All of these things and some not even mentioned were addressed at check out and it was like "to bad sorry to hear that.... oooohhh housekeeping let people in your room ? Dirty underwear and poor housekeeping. "Sorry Sir " . I wasn't looking for some restitution just some responsibility. If I owned this place and never was around I would want to know what goes on while I'm gone. Our vacation so looked forward to was a big disappointment. I did leave the owner a voicemail even before I decided to make this public but no...

Read moreWe’ve been coming here on and off for 30+ years, so obviously we like it. There have been some nice improvements since our last visit. It is cozy and comfortable and in a good location, walking distance to downtown Sister Bay. It has lots of small public places to sit and chill or to play games, and the honor bar is quite nice with a good selection of beers and snacks; the wines are better by the bottle than by the glass. Our room was large and comfortable with a nice sitting area and a balcony – very clean. The air conditioning unit is complicated and hard to figure out. Counter space for toiletries in the bathroom is somewhat limited and there’s a severe lack of places for towels – just one towel bar and one hook – not nearly enough, especially if you want us to reuse the towels. The water is what we call “slimy” – hard water that leaves you feeling like you never quite get the soap rinsed off and that you’re covered by a film. The toiletries are lovely and there are nice cozy robes provided. Breakfast is very good. It used to be more gourmet; it now has a more basic menu, but still has very nice choices and is absolutely fine, though service can be a bit slow. There are some updates needed – bedding (our blanket had several big holes in it), balconies (both ours and the public ones) need some cleaning, including power washing of the exterior walls, and doors and trim throughout (including the exterior) could use a paint refresh. Staff is friendly and helpful, though the lack of daily (or even every other day) housekeeping is a bit annoying. All in all, a good place to stay when in Door County. We’ll continue...
