BEAUTIFUL property! Water fountains, mature trees, grassy areas, fire table, outdoor dining patio, lake view and path down to the water. Staff was all very friendly and very helpful with anything we needed. And I mean super friendly! Hot tub was gigantic, super clean and HOT! We didn’t use the pool but it looked nice and clean and was heated to 84°. There are nice bathrobes in each room to use when walking to and from the pool and hot tub which was a very nice touch and so appreciated as I walked back to the room! We were in room 410 with an excellent view of the grounds and the bay. Our king size bed was super comfy and well made with tight fitting sheets (very important 😂). The room was extremely clean and well appointed. I could find nothing to even improve upon. There was plenty of lighting and at least in our room, all switches had dimmers, which was actually super useful. The AC unit kept the room at the exact temp that we set it for, but it was strangely silent. I don’t think we heard it make a sound but we could feel the cool air coming out without blowing annoying wind out of it. Definitely a top notch unit and such a pleasant departure from most hotel room units. The shower had great pressure but also two shower heads available - one large rain shower and a smaller removable head. The breakfast was well stocked and similar to all hotel breakfasts with eggs, sausage or ham, a variety of breads and bagels, yogurt with Door County cherries, a meat and cheese tray (a welcome addition) and a waffle maker. They keep a cabinet in the lobby with towels and all bathroom products that you can just grab when needed, in addition to the normal option for them to service your room and replace any items you need. They also have a nice collection of DVD’s in the lobby and players in every room. I walked the path down to the water which was steep and paved and then there is a set of steps before you get to the nice dock with bench seating at the end of it. It’s a beautiful view from the dock, so highly recommend making the trek. It would be a killer coming back up (I walked to town from there so never had to come back up the hill). The dirt path to town is about a 15 minute easy walk through the woods. There are rocks and tree roots all along the path so it is probably not a good idea for someone who isn’t sure footed. The water is in view the entire time which makes it enjoyable. The resort kayak launch is on that path and the water was calm and would have been perfect for a paddle. The path seemed to end for me at the parking lot of another resort so I walked through their parking lot and ended up right at the beach area at Waterfront Park. I enjoyed my hot mocha from Happy Coffee every day of our stay in Sister Bay - it is just excellent! If you have read all of this review, you must seriously be considering this property. I will just say that we saw hundreds of other resorts, hotels and cabins while we were there but we would definitely choose Country House Resort again! Upon arrival do not be put off by the age of the buildings or the somewhat aged appearance of the decks and outdoor steps - all rooms have been renovated very recently and you will have everything you could want or need and the...
Read moreI vacation a lot but to be honest Wisconsin wasn't someplace I would have ever come up with all my own. Luckily a friend of mine saw some information and we booked this for a girl trip. We loved it!
I'm so glad we came here and we chose this place to stay. We asked for a view of the lake we were in room 406 had to go up a flight of stairs, no elevator. The place is gorgeous well-maintained beautiful landscaping, plenty of places to sit and have Quiet Moments. Complimentary breakfast was amazing. You get coffee milk or hot chocolate in the lobby until 10 p.m. for free. The staff were warm and welcoming and helpful. Our room was quiet and comfortable our beds were amazing plenty of pillows. Love the fact the bathroom had a loud bathroom fan for privacy. Small fridge and coffee maker. There are dog-friendly rooms which I liked as an option for a further future trip. You have to be at least 13 to stay here which not having kids I liked... Chance of a work quiet romantic or peaceful stay.
You walk down a hill to the lake you can access the kayaks and canoes you have to just sign up for them in the lobby it's free there's also bikes for free. The hilll you walk down to get to the lake is steep there's a couple of benches stop and catch your breath if you're old and out of shape like I am. There's a nature trail to Sister Bay Town then I'd say it's about a half mile.
The water on Green Bay is warmer than Lake Michigan but even then it's always cold. I can't get in it slowly I have to just jump in. But I loved the water it was so clear and clean and no smell didn't see any debris or litter.
Bottom line is we love to here .. will definitely come back. great place for a girls getaway or romantic stay with your fella. Lots of good restaurants in town and on on Door County. The resort has heated pool and jacuzzi. The ice machine and the towels or in between the the jacuzzi and the pool so very conveniently located.
I'd recommend you bringing Beach shoes for the beach since it's Rocky and hard on the feet. The beaches in the town of Sister Bay which is very close. Next time we're going to get an EZ Pass for driving here too it makes getting around Chicago...
Read moreIf you're looking for a quiet, historic, kid-free sanctuary during your trip to Sister Bay, look no further. I really wish they would market the history of this place more, because it's truly a landmark. One of, if not THE, first homestead in the area. Google it. The charm and peaceful atmosphere make Country House a true reprieve from the tourist bustle of the bays and harbors. And don't even get me started on that View! Breathtaking! I'll post pictures. We stayed in a parking lot facing room (yard view) and immediately regretted it. It's part of the original building and very small. European small. We originally justified it because we hadn't intended to spend much time in our room, but after seeing the view and the rooms overlooking the bay, plus you get a private balcony, I highly recommend spending a little more for a water view room. The room still was not bad by any means. Very clean, modern finishings, huge TV, great rainfall shower with plenty of hot water, and comfy bed. The breakfast left a little to be desired, but it's free, and enough for a pick me up. Typical eggs, sausage, waffles, fruit.. if your can beat the rush, I recommend the scones. (also check out this historical photos in the dining room). The staff were kind, attentive, and very courteous. I imagine it takes a special kind of patience to deal with some of these typical tourists and despite being interrupted several times during our check in, they were extraordinarly kind and warm. Kudos to the staff. I only took 1 star off service, which I really didn't want to, because we had placed our turnover service tag on the door at 9:15am (before the 10am deadline as written on the card) but did not get any service.. Not the end of the world. We stopped down at the lobby at 9pm and easily got a fresh pair of towels. No biggie. Wow this got long but I can't say enough about this place, next time we're in Door County, we're definitely going back. Thanks for an...
