TLDR Review: Nice hotel with breathtaking views and nice balconies in a perfect location. Rooms are way overpriced for what you get in the room. Do not use the digital key through the app if you want to use the key cards given to you at check in. As soon as you use app as a key the key cards become inactive. Shop around before you book here as many places in the area have similar accommodations at more reasonable prices.
Pros: *Perfect location close to everything, right by the beach and restaurants *Staff helpful and kind for the most part *Suites are roomy *Great views and balconies are nice *outdoor area and bar are nice
Cons: *For what you get rooms are overpriced. Stayed in the premier suite, and based on other premier suites I’ve stayed at there wasn’t much that made this premier. Oversized balcony was nice. I visited family in a normal suite, and there’s not much of a difference between the normal suite and premier suite expect for an oversized deck, a small island, and extra chair. Don’t get me wrong it’s nice, but overpriced for what you get. I’ve stayed at very nice Airbnb’s in the area for the same price we paid at the hotel
*Apparently if you use the digital key in the app you can’t use the key cards they give you when you check in. That would have been nice to know as my wife got locked out while I was waiting for a table. Front desk was not helpful in the manner, so I sent her the digital key through the app.
*The refrigerator in the room was pretty useless. Didn’t really keep things cold and was pretty tiny. Glad we had the yeti with us.
Overall thoughts: nice hotel, okay rooms(based on the price), hopefully the prices go down to more reasonable level based on what you get. I’m a firm believer if paying for what you get and have no issues paying more for luxury, and in this case I don’t think I paid for what I got. I’ll be back if the prices drop, if not there are a lot of other options in the area where one could stay with similar accommodations at more...
Read moreOk, here is the definitive review of the Dorr Hotel.
We stayed two weeks in a row in August 2021 and it is easily the best new addition to Door County since Al Johnsons. The rooms are perfectly designed, can be made SUPER COLD with the AC, the bathroom has a nice shower with great water pressure, the toilet has its own door, and the patio has two nice big chairs on it. Everyone staying here sits on their patio for coffee, drinks, or just enjoying the lake view. The room also features a little fridge for beverages that keeps them ice cold.
The location of this hotel couldn't be better unless it was literally placed in the Lake. Everything, and I mean everything, is within walking distance. The lake itself, coffee, lunch, dinner, bars, all of it is within no more than one block.
The staff is super friendly, you get two free drinks when you arrive, the free breakfast is good enough (yogurt and a protein bar or a muffin), they have a digital coffee machine that makes exceptional lattes, and the bar is cozy for happy hour. They don't serve cocktails in the bar (liquor licenses are hard to come by up there) but they have everything else including tap beer, seltzers, and a good bottled wine list. The lobby is impeccably designed and staying here in Fall or Winter would be awesome with their big fireplace.
Outside has two giant sitting areas with Adirondack chairs, one of which has a gas fire pit. We ate outside as a family multiple times and it was perfect for any meal. They have a huge grassy area that kids can play on and people are always out having a good time. They even setup an outdoor bar every now and then!
This hotel is exactly what Sister Bay needed, a breath of fresh air and we already booked for next year. Get in here now because its going to be super popular once people find out how...
Read moreThe Dorr helped make our wedding weekend absolutely incredible! There is truly nowhere else like this hotel in Door County. We got married in Sister Bay and staying at a hotel that was near restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops made it so convenient for our guests. Being able to walk everywhere was so nice, especially for those that wanted to stay out late, or go to the bars. The hotel has a large, welcoming lobby with plenty of seating for gathering with friends and family. Their bar staff is super friendly and we loved grabbing a drink there before heading out to dinner. James communicated with us often as we made arrangements for our wedding block of rooms, and everyone else at the hotel was just as friendly and helpful -- Alison, Sharon, Chris, and the housekeeping staff. As the bride and groom, we needed a large room as we would be using it for the wedding party to get ready on the wedding day. The Dorr Suite has a large balcony with an incredible view of the water, and spacious seating. The room also has a nice living room area with a pull out couch, extra seating, and a kitchenette area. The large patio area outside the hotel has numerous adirondack chairs, a fire pit, and offers the perfect hangout space for a sunny day or a late night. Both Alison and the housekeeper checked on us regularly, knowing we had a big weekend. They cleaned up our room frequently to help prepare for our events, and even brought us a cart filled with coffee and desserts the morning of the wedding for my entire bridal party. We were blown away by their kindness. We had such personalized service and it truly made our wedding weekend extra special. If you are staying in Sister Bay, we highly recommend staying at the Dorr! If you're getting married in Sister Bay, you literally have to stay at The Dorr. We can't wait...
