This is an updated review, from my initial review from five years ago. I gave Adventure outdoors a five star review five years ago because they had fixed their customer service and I had a great experience at that time. I’ve purchased well over 10 firearms from this company And referred at least 20 people to the store to purchase firearms clothing and ammo. There’s been times that I’ve had an encounter with a worker that may not have given me the best customer service and I overlooked it and I’ve had friends to come to the store that didn’t feel as they have received the best customer service but overall OK experience and we made our purchases and left. I’m updating this review because of my last purchase that I’ve made about a month ago of an over under shotgun. I came in to the store individual the gun counter did a great job showing me shotguns, giving me the different options and features of the guns and I made my decision. We filled out the paperwork and went to the register where I noticed that the gun that was in the box had a different shade of color on the stock in the grip. they said the only other gun, of that model that they had was the display gun. I decided not to buy the display gun and just overlook the fact that the shades of the wood was different because I wanted to shoot the next day at the match. They assembled the gun and disassembled it and sold it to me when I got home. I put the gun together and noticed that the action wouldn’t close, it was a Sunday and Adventure outdoors was not open. I returned Monday and asked them to take a look at it for me. I spoke with the manager. I can’t remember his name but he short balled with a goatee. He was very arrogant, rude and sarcastic with me, I asked him, if we could just swap the gun out for the display model that they did have in a rude reply he said no there’s no returns. I didn’t want to return the gun. I didn’t even want my money back. I just wanted to Exchange it out for another gun I would’ve even upgraded if that was an option. I asked him if he could just have his gunsmith take a look at it same type of reply he said yeah, but you have to pay for it. I couldn’t believe that I just purchased a brand new gun. It is not functioning properly and they want me to pay for repair , I refused to pay for it. He said they could send it off for warranty claim so a gun that I haven’t used it’s gonna go away for a month. It’s ridiculous to me when he could’ve just swapped the gun out for the for the other one that he had in stock. I Understand you have policies of no returns and why you have that in place, but I’m not even asking for my money back. Doing business with rude people that aren’t even willing to just swap an item to make matters worse. I asked for the owners email address. I sent the email to the owner to see if we can resolve this issue and he never replied. I get it. The store sells a ton of guns every day every month every year and my two guns that I purchase per year means nothing to them. Well, I’m gonna give them what they want by not being a customer anymore and stop referring people to their location. It may not impact their business but at the end of the day it’s about respect. I bet there’s more people out there going into this store every week that gets disrespected and doesn’t say anything about it because there’s been situations throughout the years that I just brushed it off kept it moving, but I’m not willing to overlook this. If This was Cabela’s, bass pro shop or Academy. They would Treated me with respect and try to resolve the issue. Yes, they do have some discounts on firearms monthly but to be honest with you to save a couple of dollars and be disrespected is not worth it. when I went to pick up my shotgun when it arrived from the warranty claim, they told me that the manufacturer couldn’t fix the gun and decided to replace it. Which would’ve been the same thing if they would’ve just swapped out the one that I had for the one that they had in stock and I wouldn’t have to have waited. Don’t...
Read moreThis is my favorite gun store, but the last few times I've been there, service continues to deteriorate. I ran over there today on my lunch break; I went there to look at a gun that was on their sales flyer, and it turns out it's the same trashy gun (and over-priced) that I looked at a couple years or so ago, and I told that to the salesman. The salesman said everybody has the same reaction when they look at that gun (synthetic stock is all sticky and gooey). You'd think they would either put a new stock on it (synthetic is cheap) or drop the price. Instead, it's starting to look like it's just part of a bait and switch item to bring people into the store. But ok, whatever; let's say that's all fine and normal. But the checkout process seems to get slower and slower. Today was the worst yet; a long line of people standing there, not moving. Not even in slow motion; just not moving. I stood there for some time before the line shortened a little, but only because 3 guys (who had been standing there for some time already) finally got sick of it and left their carts and said they were leaving because they can't wait any longer. Another guy BEHIND me finally left in disgust too, and he had a bunch of stuff in his cart. I continued to stand there because I found some ammo that I had been looking for, and I really wanted to buy it, so I continued to wait; until I just couldn't wait anymore; it was either forget the ammo and leave, or get fired for taking too long a lunch break. I finally had to leave; the line itself never moved. We had been trying to look at the front of the line but none of us could figure out what in the world was going on up there. At some point it looked like the cashier was holding a wad of cash, but appeared confused as to what was to happen next. We couldn't figure out if she was trying to accept the cash or if she was was using it to make change. I understand that sometimes there can be a delay at the cashier (no fault of the cashier), but the store manager or asst. manager should notice this and open up another line or two like I've seen happen at almost all other stores when lines get too long. There were at least 3 people who earlier had asked me if I needed help finding anything (very nice and friendly) when I didn't actually need the help, but when I tried to give money to somebody, ANYBODY, ... yeah, no help. Perhaps training some of the staff on how to be an emergency cashier might improve customer service. Or maybe better supervision. Again, this is truly my favorite gun store (together with Cabela's, I guess), but it just seems customer service is on a slow downward spiral the last few times I've been there. I currently have no desire to go back any time soon due to what happened today. I'm giving two stars because the store itself is great and the staff working behind the gun counters are also great, but not being able to buy anything at the store is...
Read moreObjectively decent. Just not a place for me. Pros and Cons listed below. Before that though, I have to say I loathed seeing about 42 political posters unavoidably at the front entrance. I know the gun business and gun owners are highly opinionated on politics but as a gun owner whose political ideals may not line up with others, it was impossible to just enjoy my time at this range.
Granted, it's a huge store, big business and they'll do what they want, clearly don't need my business, I just don't want to go somewhere 97 election signs in my face when I just want to shop or train in peace.
So I cancelled, and taking business elsewhere, online sources are cheaper anyways and their transfer fee is higher than other nearby options. Regardless, I'll be looking for a range inviting for those of all political backgrounds rather than just their favorite. Anyways, the political signage was a more subjective take, and so here's more objective review.
Pros -Huge store, huge selection (though not all encompassing), even alternative self-defense, supplies, clothes, other sports a bit too, so so much. -decent range fee deals, and good range, with a nice rental selection -Good prices on ammo and good sale prices. -Fun events like free Gun or XYZ drawings (never went but looked great) -Friendly staff. -large used selection -In house classes available (I took one- it was great!)
Cons: -Can seem understaffed or very slow frequently, whether at check out or waiting to inquire with at firearms counter. -When not for sale, the normal price of stuff is usually pretty easy to beat, especially with a swift google search or check with your favorite online supplier, that plus transfer fee somewhere with a lower transfer fee and you can get most guns cheaper. -Knowledge and rapport of staff can very, couple times I chatted with a rep they seemed disinterested. No biggie, people have off days, but it was enough to never know what kind of interaction I had, even though I always make a point to be friendly and courteous. Like I said in pros, often staff is friendly and helpful, but the inconsistency makes a con. -While good rental selection, I did rent a gun which the sights started to fall off of, and another I couldn't rent because the sight battery was dead. So while the rental selection is good, it could be looked after better. -As I mentioned, if you are not a fan of hearing about politics (whether it's "your team" or not), there were literally more election posters at the entrance than I have seen at any other business. This is not an exaggeration; the only place I've seen more is at a political rally.
This may be a good range/store for you, but not...
