Dirty Dogs Solana Beach — Attraction in Solana Beach

The staff allowed my dog to choke herself to the point of her tongue turning completely purple, her eyes going bloodshot, and expressing her anal gland all over herself. No one stopped to consider the safety or wellbeing of my sweet, anxious dog until it could have been too late.

All of this over trying to complete a nail trim.

I don't usually write reviews, but this one seems necessary.

I've been taking my dog to various Dirty Dogs and Meow locations for a little over a year now. I usually have a good experience with the staff there, never any issues, but for some reason today was different.

I took my dog in for a self wash, then asked for her nails to be trimmed. The staff took her back and I could hear her barking and whimpering. I pulled the manager aside and informed them that if the nail trim could not be completed, I was okay with that.

A short time later one of the staff brought my dog out to me and informed me that although 2 other staff members were assisting, none of them noticed my dog was choking herself to the point where her tongue had turned completely purple, her eyes were bloodshot, and she expressed her anal gland all over herself.

I immediately talked to the manager, who pulled in the other staff members into this conversation. I was not looking for a refund, but an explanation for how this could have occurred. I wanted to know why my distressed dog was not pulled out of the appointment immediately, before she could have choked to death.

No one could offer an explanation for why 3 different staff members allowed my dog to go through this.

I do not believe that the staff are ill-intentioned, but I do know what happened today is completely...

I decided to take my puppy home WITHOUT being groomed from the Solana Beach location!

After showing up early to my 4pm grooming appointment and dropping my puppy off, I received a phone call 15 minutes later from the groomer telling me I needed to come back to pick up my puppy. The reason being will blow your mind!

I was told to come pick up my puppy because the groomer was worried that my puppy’s groom wouldn’t be completed within two hours they had scheduled him in for. The employee was so concerned that my puppy’s groom would impede on his ability to finish his shift at exactly 6pm that he didn’t even attempt to groom him!

As a customer, employees schedules aren’t my responsibility! I scheduled an appointment and expected the job to get done! I don’t need to be concerned about the logistics of poor scheduling and bad work ethic.

I’ve never had this happen to me where I’ve shown up to a scheduled appointment and then had an employee unwilling to commit to the task simply because they were too concerned about the end of their shift. A shift that was ending 2 hours from then!!

As a result of this unprofessionalism, I decided to take my puppy home without being groomed. The employee’s lack of commitment and work ethic made me nervous. I didn’t want the groomer to rush my puppy’s groom and do a half-asssed job just to ensure he would finish within 2 hours so he could head home!

Very disappointed with my experience and DO NOT recommend taking your dog here, as they’ve proven to be very unreliable and...

Megan is INCREDIBLE!! Like wow. I’m in a group chat on Instagram with a bunch of other Samoyeds in San Diego and everyone always raves about her. We usually go to other dirty dogs locations and have always had fantastic experiences but Megan is next level! She not only does a great job grooming but the dogs all love her. I have a really fluffy dog (takes about 4 hours to groom) and she said she knows dogs get tired of standing all the time so she had him take breaks where they would do zoomies around the back area, she played with him, and even took him outside for a potty break. My dog came out looking as spiffy as ever and simultaneously had the best time ever. Friends of ours have said their dogs actually get excited whenever they get to the groomers now 😂

Also - I took our foster dog here for a do it yourself scrub about a year ago. The guy working said he loved that I’m fostering and said the bath was on him that day + gave us a bag of treats. Such a kind gesture that I will never forget. Thanks Dirty Dogs for always going above and beyond...
