Locals refer to this area as the caves at La Jolla Cove. The actual La Jolla Cove Beach is immediately northwest but is a protected marine preserve with no kayaks allowed. Thus, the only entry point is a mile away at La Jolla Shores Beach where you can rent kayaks. It’s about a 20 minute paddle. Plan on 2 hours total. You may see leopard sharks, stingrays, eels, sea lions. If you want to get a feel for the area but you don’t have time or you don’t want to be on the water you can see if the cave store is open. It’s $5 to walk down 144 stairs into a cave. Be sure to do the short hike behind and below the cave store for great coastline and wildlife views. Sea lions, pelicans, kormorants. Recommended Walk - from the Cave store to the Cove, down to the children’s pool sea wall, finishing at tide pools. Gelato at Bobboi or...
