A laid back cozy sandwich shop that has served breakfast, lunch and dinner in heart of La Jolla/Torrey Pines since 1972. It is in the first block of restaurants on the street leading to the beach.

Both my husband and I enjoyed our large sandwich of fresh bread and turkey, thick meat slices layered on muenster cheese, avocado and cranberry. If you are really hungry you can finish the sandwich in one sitting.

It has been placed on must return list, because it is a reasonably priced quality healthy sit down near the beach. Friendly efficient staff,...
Read moreThe name caught my eye but it was certainly not what I expected. Cheese shop in La Jolla sounds ritzy, instead it was cute, nostalgic and a lil quirky. The sandwich was fantastic! We got a club on the French roll, the roll was pillow soft and so flavorful, the meat and veggies were fresh and high quality. They have a wide selection and an extensive menu, but the kicker was the old-school candy assortment from over the decades. Prices were reasonable for the quality and portion. We also ordered a 1/2 Caesar salad, it had a little too much dressing and grated cheese (cant believe i am typing too much cheese) which made it a kinda soggy/heavy but the taste was good and it was a good size. The service was not great, the younger kids behind the counter were more personable than the grown man with no affect. I guess he was annoyed by the fact that it was like an oven in the store, luckily the seating is outdoor. I would totally go back, the sandwich and candy selection were worth the less than...
Read moreWe were very excited to get a sandwich at a deli we had heard so much about. We called ahead to place our order, and we were told it would be ready in 10 minutes. When we arrived 10 minutes later, we paid and were told it would be right out...but for the next 15 minutes, we simply waited in the storefront while no one acknowledged our presence. At that point, one of the cashiers said, "Oh, I didn't know you were still here!" He found our sandwich sitting in a bag on the desk, brought it over to us, and profusely apologized. He offered us cookies and drinks on the house to make up for the lapse in service. All in all, his consideration made up for the frustration we experienced, and we'd consider giving the place another go!
In terms of the sandwich, we ordered the lamb on rosemary bread. The bread was much too fluffy for our tastes, and it took away from the sandwich fillings. We'd recommend going with another bread option or having your...
