This was my first visit to La Jolla and our group went to Sushi Mori on our first night. I was surprised to see Uni on the menu in this little sushi restaurant so I had to order it. Our very helpful waitress suggested that I get the king scallop and uni sushi. I did and oh my goodness did it exceed my expectations. I am a big foodie and uni has been on my bucket list for years. Living in Texas, it has been impossible for me to get because it is so cost prohibitive to ship here. So I was delighted to be on the west coast where uni is harvested. The sushi plate has the sweetness of the scallop and the creamy umami flavor of the uni. I was in foodie heaven. It was so good, I went back for lunch the next two days!

Steps away from La Jolla Shores, is this closed street full of restaurants and bars, and a spot we visited again was Sushi Mori! Everyone was so kind from the moment we got there! This is what we ordered: -sushi of the day $20 (as shown in the today's special deal) -unagi don $28 (first time ordering this and it was sooo good!) -chirashi $34 (got this last time and it still was just as amazing) -cherry blossom $18 (first time ordering this and it has spicy imitation crab, avocado, cucumber and on top is tuna, salmon, avocado with spicy mayo...would get this roll again!) Such a cute sushi date night spot that is intimate! Recommend going during sunset time to see the beautiful hues as it gets darker.

Mediocre food that's a bit on the expensive side. If you want to eat some fish, the Sushi & Sashimi combo would probably be your best value choice, which comes with 6 pieces of fish and 5 nigiri. The fish is mostly quite fresh, but the cuts are not premium. The sushi rice was mushy and packed too tight that it was not very enjoyable to bite into, the sushi chef really needed to work on his skills. My friend ordered the Una Don and it was just ok, a sad amount of eel (compared to other places) and a hefty charge (30$), not the best value either. There are better Japanese places around the area, just go somewhere else.

Korean owned Japanese restaurant. Good effort at authentic Japanese food, but mediocre at best *

Stopped by while visiting La Jolla beach and decided to give it a try. We were greeted by staff who carried a strong Korean accent and spoke Korean to each other. This appears to be a family run business.

You can't go wrong with fresh fish on rice and their fish was decent. However, they use Korean rice rather than sushi rice - a similar variant of rice but the difference is noticeable. Variety on specials is limited. Their attempt at ramen fell quite short. The noodles were soggy and the broth was lacking. Rarely will you find a place that can do both sushi and ramen well at the same location and Sushi Mori is no exception.

Overall, they made a good effort to provide Japanese food to the area but their ambition to bring both hot and cold dishes worked against them. Still, if you're in the area and had a craving for sushi, not a bad place to stop amidst the surrounding Italian...
