Why do places grow bigger and then muck things up? There was no need to change your fish and chips. You did not remove it from your menu…you changed the fish. And not for the better. Your fish and chips were so unique you couldn’t get them anywhere else. You could have charged double and I would have gladly paid it.
Bring back the wahoo fish and chips. Used to come here for the last 5 years. I have tried fish and chips at many different establishments. Yours used to be out of this world with the meaty wahoo and paper thin breading. It was exceptional. I have told many clients, friends, family about it and eaten it at least 100 times. Seems to me you likely have a new chef who is changing the menu based on his preferences. Now you have greasy, over battered fish and chips just like everywhere else. The same fish and chips I can get in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Texas, Washington. Just run of the mill (very) forgettable fish and chips. All those positive reviews about the wahoo fish and chips meant nothing to you I suppose. Not only do you ruin it, but also increased the price for a worse product. It used to run $85-90 for fish and chips for a group of four. Today it was $136 with one order of chicken nachos. Which is also another thing your chef changed. The nachos used to be amazing with the ground chicken Tinga. You acknowledged in your response that it was a crowd favorite. “Was” is the keyword. Now your shredded teriyaki chicken should be on rice and nowhere near nachos.
There is nothing good about generic white fish and thick greasy batter (aside your food cost being lower). Maybe some changes in the restaurant world are simply made for better profit margins…or maybe the new chef you trust your restaurant with has an overinflated ego regarding fish and chips. I guess we’ll never know.
Just think of the number of customer who are not leaving a review but...
Read moreFun little bar/restaurant walking distance from the beach. It looks like it was carved out of a space between 2 other buildings, and is mostly outside... cool! Due to Covid 19, they had additional seating (and flat-screen TVs) outside the main bar in the street, which was blocked off. All restaurants on that street had similar extra seats like that. Kudos to the city of La Jolla for allowing that.
Drink menu was nice, beer selection was heavy on the IPAs (are we STILL on this IPA bandwagon? Yeah... Ok...) but still had other options as well.
Food menu was... diverse yet limited. Basically think of what you might want at a bar for food, they probably have that. But only one option of each. I'm sure someone has posted the menu here, so take a look. (Update... looks like there are a few photos of different menus here. The one offered on our visit looks to be paired down a bit... probably due to Covid, which is completely understandable) Want a burger? Check. Want fish? Check. Want a salad? Check. Want multiple options of burgers, fish or salads... nope. That being said, what they do offer is done quite well. The "shore dusted" fries were FANTASTIC!
Wait staff was on the ball, friendly and attentive. No complaints there. Bar was family friendly too.
So, why 4 stars and not 5? Price. $7.50 for a pint and $9 for house wine... oof. Plus each entree was at least $16. Family of 4 (mom, dad, 2 kids ages 12 and 15) dinner and drinks was $115... which seemed a bit spendy for what we got. I must admit that I didn't feel ripped off, but was still taken somewhat aback when the bill arrived.
If you're on the fence about this place, give it a shot. Just be careful and maybe split an entree if you're not too hungry and want to save...

Me and 4 friends went to Shore Rider two Friday’s ago for a friends birthday. After an hour and half wait we finally were seated. The waiter was nice but definitely scattered. We placed our drink and food order. After 45 minutes of waiting while other tables were receiving food we got confused. Our waiter never visited us during this time frame. After another 20 minutes our waiter came up to us and was confused that we hadn’t received our food from the kitchen staff. He went inside and found out that our food was sitting in to go boxes and bags after sitting for 45 minutes.
He brought out the food and apologized for the mistake. We tasted our food and realized that it was cold from sitting so long. Two members of our party got sick because of the food the next day. After another 20 minutes the manager came outside and apologized. He said he would bring us “goodies” but never offered to remake our food. After another 20 minutes of waiting we realized the manager wasn’t bringing any “goodies” so we asked the waiter for our check. We waited another 15 minutes for him to bring out the check. We look at the check and realize that 5 items that we didn’t order were added to the check because of the system error. We waited another 15 minutes to flag down the waiter and told him that there was mistakes. He did not apologize but rather said he would fix it. He finally fixed it and we paid the full amount plus tip out of common decency although the experience was disgraceful . The whole experience was the definition of a disaster. I would highly recommend that no one eat here unless they start to fix...
