Active member of the Church here. And plan to stay that way.
This temple like all the others is great, that is, if you come alone or with a couple of other adults. All temples perform well in this way. What separates Oquirrh from the rest is when you add kids into the mix. My family of 7 (now 8) regularly temple hops around the valley because our temple (the SLC temple) is still closed. Oquirrh is at the bottom of the list in this regard. They have not figured this out yet.
Want to leave your older kids in the waiting room while you go through a session? Not unless you want to meet the temple matron in person. Whereupon she will tell you to never do that again. Who can stay in this room? Only those who are 18 years and older are allowed to stay here with ANYONE younger. Never had another temple tell me this and I have been doing this for years.
Want to walk with your kids from the baptistry to the east front doors through the lobby? Not unless you want to be swarmed by service members telling you that its now allowed. BUT WAIT, don't kids even younger kids come in to get sealed to there families in the upper rooms. Don't they walk the same hallways? This walking rule makes no sense. We aren't even going to the upper rooms. Ok, guess I will go out the baptistry and around the temple to get my wife from the waiting room on the east side then back around the temple to the west side get to my car. This experience was nuts! Everyone was having a cow. Then why even have a door at the baptistry that allows this?
I left my kids on another occasion at the baptistry while I did a session with my wife. My kids later told me that the staff made them wait at the exterior doors of the entrance of the temple until it was EXACTLY their turn. This locations is back at the recommend desk. I said, "Was it full?" They replied, "Only like 3 kids were even in the baptistry before us." The told me this when I came to pick them up. Sure enough. Fully staffed but hardly anyone getting baptized. Guess you can't wait in the baptistry waiting room to watch the baptisms until it is your turn. Wait? What?
These are only 3 of the examples I have with bringing my family here.
So, are you alone and want an awesome experience? Go ahead and come here. I have done that lots.
Have a family and want to know what its like to feel loved together? Go to these temples:
Bountiful - TOP NOTCH, - If full they even let you do confirmations without the baptisms to at least let you have the experience.
Draper - Truly an underrated temple. Staff here have it figured out when it comes to families! This temple holds my record for the fastest (non-Rushed) baptism time. 35 Minutes car to car. MIND BLOWN. GREAT EXPERIENCES HERE. Worth the drive every time.
Jordan River - The Bentley of all Temples! Lots of experience and no issues here. Truly my go to when others are all reserved and even when they are not!
Taylorsville - The jury is still out here. Time will tell. Haven't been yet.
Oquirrh - This is an invitation to up your game.
Unfortunately, I don't know if I will return to this one now that there are so many better options. That is, unless I'm...
Read moreLove this temple! It is beautiful inside and out. The view is beautiful as well. A recommend given by a bishop of the Church is required in order to enter. But anyone is welcome to walk the grounds. [Any newly-constructed temple has a period of time when anyone can enter to look around and learn about the temple (during the âopen houseâ time), then it is dedicated and is closed to the public (unless you have the recommend)]. It is a special place where marriages are performed. This temple has a nice water fountain outside the front doors. There is also a huge grassy field on the North side that is nice to have a picnic on, etc. A walk around this beautiful temple is good for the soul! There is handicapped parking and...
Read moreThis was the first Temple Open House I attended in Utah. I was amazed by the beauty of the temple. It felt like I was walking into a familiar home when I stepped through the doors. It was almost like a palace. I remember thinking back on that occasion several months later and gaining a greater understanding that it was my Heavenly Father's house. He was inviting me to come in and stay for a while and to abide by His rules. I love the temples. I am grateful for the opportunity that I have to go inside of them and to make promises to the Lord and to do work for other people. It is a place where I can go to get away from troubles and to come closer...
