Just wanted to post my experience with Uptown cheapskate in the district here so that others can hopefully avoid it.
We buy pallets of brand new items. I decided to take some clothing in to get an idea what they would pay for it as it’s been a few months since we’ve been there. I asked how they come up with the pricing to offer and they said they sell at 1/3 of retail and you get 1/3 of what they price it at so roughly (supposedly) 1/6 of retail.
They decided to keep 15 items and said they’d give me $35 which is $2.33 per item. I told them I declined and would like to just take it home for that price. This is when they informed me that you can’t take it home. It’s already been processed and is out for sale… so sorry. 🤔 I’ve taken stuff there before. I’ve never been told this. I’ve always had the option to take or decline the offer. Realistically at $2.33 a piece I’d rather donate the items.
I asked if I could at least see what they kept and a pricing breakdown to understand this and was told no. But what I can tell you is that even old navy and gap which was a good chunk of these items, doesn’t typically sell items for $14 so I’m not at all convinced they paid anywhere near what these items should have sold for. I looked at tags as I took some Nordstrom items and saw nothing less than $19.99 and that was an extreme low (also it was items they didn’t take). Most of the other items were $39-59 and up if they did have tags on them.
So in short… it feels dishonest. If you’re taking your items there just know that you want to be very careful and clear with them on what they will do with your items. The girl there only told me if I didn’t come back this evening I would forfeit the items and they would be...
Read moreJust left this store after bringing some clothing items in to sell and will not be back. They did not end up buying anything which is totally fine and does not factor into my review today.
The issue I had was with the way the girl handled the “buy.” As she went through the clothing items I watched her not even look at the clothes. She literally was talking and laughing with the young man who was also working and did not look at the clothes. She took them out one piece at a time, and without looking at them dropped them on the counter. When she finished this she picked all the items up and placed them back in the basket before calling me up. When she did call me up she said, “unfortunately we weren’t able to buy anything today. Just some normal wear and tear that happens to everyone’s clothes.”
Had that been true that would be fine. However many of the items I brought in were brand new and still had tags on them. Name brand things like a Guess pea coat.... but hey, normal wear and tear, right?
I’ll give the store the benefit of the doubt that they don’t treat all customers like this, but today that was what happened. I knew she hadn’t looked through it and that was confirmed again when she told me it was wear and tear (on brand new items never worn...) Again, the outcome of them not buying anything is not a factor because I didn’t want the clothes anymore and happily donated them, but the poor quality of service exemplified by her reasoning that was clearly out of left field is reason enough for me...
Read moreDo not go here!! I enjoyed my experience selling clothes here in the past, but will never be returning after my experience today. This was a terrible experience and I was greeted by very moody employees. They are sneakily scamming sellers, here’s why:
Definitely keeping people in store while they wait so people are more tempted to shop around and buy clothes in the meantime. Asked them why they have the bag rule and they said it’s because people complain that they buy & sell clothes out of garbage bags? Nearly every resale store does this so I highly doubt they’ve received complaints. If clothes are dirty they shouldn’t buy them to begin with regardless of the way they are brought in. Will only do business with Plato’s Closet from...
