Made a visit yesterday.
The market is clean and well organized. Selection is decent for the space, but I was hoping for a bit more variety in the types of items. Each type has a load of brands and flavors, it just felt like those same flavors were with every brand. Packets of seasoning/mix with four or five varieties from one brand, with three to four rows of a different brand with the same flavors. It’s nice to have variety, but I was overwhelmed and wasn’t sure which ones were the best to start with to try. The market aisles are a bit narrow. If we stood on one side with our cart, there wasn’t room for someone to pass us; they’d have to go around another aisle to get to the products they wanted. Staff is helpful. I’d asked if I’d grabbed the right oil to make a donut mix. We were warned the donuts weren’t the sweet kind we were used to (which although was appreciated, we had also read the ingredients and understood that already) but that yes, the oil we chose would be good. Checkout is well laid out, but it looks like they could use more counter space. One of our containers was glass. The cashier warned us to be careful with that bag (which had other items in it), but he hadn’t wrapped the jar in an extra bag for protection. As we were paying, the bag fell off the edge of the counter and the jar shattered on the floor. Thankfully we were allowed to grab a new one.
As for the restaurant side. Size inclusive chairs, plenty of space for wheelchairs and such. Again, staff was helpful. We were asked if we were ordering via the terminal so he could walk us through it, but we had chosen the phone app instead. Ordering process was easy and fulfilled before the estimated time. They wrapped the bowls with plastic wrap so they wouldn’t leak. Bags are thick enough to hold the food without threatening to tear. I wanted to use their grand opening coupon, and was told it was only good for the day before (no date on the Facebook post, so I didn’t know). They DID offer a 5% discount on cash payments. Awesome. Afterward, I looked at the receipt, and it said they’d add a percentage to the total for those paying with card. So I’m a little confused on bill totals. Is the price given a base cost that is then an additional fee when paying with a card or a discount to that base cost if paying with cash? Regardless, back to the food, the flavor seemed lacking. Spice is good, but even on our lowest spice level (so we could focus on the core flavor) it was a bit bland.
Overall, it’s a good shop. We’ll...
Read moreI am so thrilled to find an Indian grocery store & Kitchen in South Lyon. First off, it’s delicious! And from scratch cooking! Portions are generous. So many options & each is different. An ordering kiosk & labels for people with food allergies! I saw a sign with a list of dishes with list of what nuts are used for each dish. I shop here because the quality of the fresh food is excellent and very reasonably priced. I buy somethings there instead of local bigger grocers because they have a better price. They carry high quality spices, mixes, legumes & rices. It’s a great place to learn about & try Indian food. And if you’re already familiar with Indian food, then this will be a new delight for you. The Chef is knowledgeable and experienced, but most of all, so kind & helpful. He loves food, cooking and sharing that love with others. It shows. Please stop & try!...
