Awful store, awful ownership, awful experience. I have NEVER left a negative review for any business, but this establishment has certainly earned it.
To begin, the owner had us wait outside in the rain a half hour until two other customers were done shopping before unlocking the door. We were then told with an air of contempt that even though we were fully vaccinated, we could not enter without masking up, without sanitizing and without wearing gloves. So let me get this straight - I CAN eat in any restaurant I choose in any state I choose without enduring this charade, but I CANNOT thumb through 4 or 5 boxes of your overpriced Linda Ronstadt & Barry Manilow albums or $12.99 DVD's that they can't give away at the local flea market. Seriously? Is this being "careful"? Is this being "considerate"? I was careful and considerate when I got vaccinated. To make matters worse, we were the only ones in the store. How about "paranoia" or "overkill"?
Okay, so we shrugged it off and courteously followed her request for this ridiculousness and entered the store. I had gone with the intent to shop for a new receiver and was ready to spend. I saw the electronics room was cordoned off and asked if I could enter. I was let in and saw maybe a half dozen cassette decks and EQ's lining the bare shelves and had to listen to some guy who I presumed to be the owner's partner, husband, or any assortment thereof, complain that he had too much work and if he "just dusted units off and put them on the shelves" he could "get it all done". Nice way to instill confidence in a potential customer. Here's a newsflash - take one or two less cigarette breaks per hour and you may complete something!
I wanted to like this place. I truly did. But I just can't. The owner's attitude just would not allow it. And as with ANY review that doesn't meet this owner's high opinion of herself (look for yourself), I fully expect her to come at me with a "you are so selfish" and "it's not all about you" diatribe. But last time I checked, it IS all about me! I'm the CUSTOMER!!! Something you've yet to learn with any degree of professionalism. And not only am I the customer, I'm also the customer who WILL NOT be spending any money at your place of business and will advise anyone who will listen to steer clear of your rudeness and avoid your establishment at all costs. I recommend they spend their hard earned cash with those who appreciate and deserve your business, and that is...
Read moreI showed up today only talking to the nice lady who answered the phone, not any of the techs. I brought with me two pieces, a vintage MCS turntable and a not so vintage Cambridge Audio integrated. I believe the nice lady who possibly answered the phone (I didn't get her name unfortunately), escorted me to the back where I met Brian. Brian, having the patience of a saint, took the time to get the background on my pieces and even did his best to gauge what my level of comprehension was when it came to what it took to make the internals of these items work. I know enough to be dangerous, but also willing to admit my error and stupidity. Some of which may have occurred with both items, but I'll move on. Brian explained, that though older, a bit beat up, and possibly impossible to get the schematics, the Cambridge really wasn't a piece of gear he'd worked on. Despite this, he went through the issues with it and basically diagnosed that it was more cost effective to replace it than fix it. Which is really what I wanted to confirm. Now when it came to the table, he patiently explained it's working and why some of my "ideas" as to possible causes really weren't where the problem would lie due to how a turntable table operates. Brian thought it was possible the RCA cables went bad. I never thought to wiggle them...ugh. Also during our talk it hit me almost like lightning that maybe I really didn't seed the cables fully. Another one on me maybe. Brian also kindly offered that maybe the plug of the cable could use a little De-oxit in case of possible corrosion. I think this was more to help soothe some of my wounded pride, though of course it not going to hurt. Brian offers that he's still willing to look at it, but he has a wait on repairs and it's probably just as worth it to go home and wiggle and try to fully seat the rca's as much as it would be leaving it there. Are you kidding me? What year am I in? Just amazing service. I drove and hour and twenty to get to Retro and the same back (I didn't tell Brian that). I will gladly do it again with a smile on my face knowing anything I need fixing will be in good hands. The man got a customer for life without trying to sell anything. Can you imagine that? Oh! Lest I forget, I spent an additional 10-15 mins looking at all the beautiful restored gear they sell. Just eye candy. Thanks Brian, from...
Read moreIf there was a way to give more than 5 stars, I would. I absolutely love this place. There are several museum quality pieces for sale here and others that fall short are priced more than fair. The space is well maintained and it is a quiet and subdued environment with plenty of friendly conversation available from the lovely "shop girl" :) There are also various pop culture reproductions of posters, t-shirts, toys etc. that are worth taking a serious look at.
RetroAddicts originally got my attention because I am a vinyl enthusiast and I learned they had a few for sale. I found a few interesting pieces but, under restraint, decided to choose one. It was a something I had never seen before or knew of, but the cover art (& bargain price of $5) lured me into its purchase.
I didnt listen to it immediately. It sat by my turntable for a week or so. But when I did decide to listen to it, I was surprised at what I found. I found an incredibly clean and good quality record that was clearly well vetted. So, I called the owner and he was kind enough to explain his inspection process and, I assure you, you are in capable hands at this store. There is an entire space dedicated to retro audio equipment that I plan to explore next time I'm in the area.
Thanks for a stellar experience.
