Over the weekend myself and my not so tech savvy mother visited Staples in search of a replacement laptop for her. We had visited several stores and had a clear idea of what we were looking for.
Shortly after we entering the store me made our way over to the computer section and we’re greeted by Nathan. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful throughout the process of purchasing a new laptop. I appreciated his service throughout our time in the store.
Unfortunately things took a dramatic turn when Mike the tech manager let himself into the conversation getting involved in the sale of tech services we were considering. We had been informed of all the additional services Staples provided included, start-up program install, virus protection support and, damage/ replacement warranty coverage. Being that one of my best friends is a computer programmer, familiar in several coding languages, ran tech support for all four years in college, works in the coding industry for a US defense contractor, and builds computers for fun, I felt confident we would be okay without Staples services, and we respectfully declined.
That is when Mike started to elevate his voice and use scare tactics to strong arm my poor unknowing mother into buying their services. Again, she nervously declined and when he continued I had to interject and say “that’s enough buddy, thank you.... but we are not interested.”
At that point Nathan who had been professional throughout, sensing things were going south, took my mother to the back of the store to discuss Mcafee, but it was clear it was more so to get us away from Mike who was clearly upsetting both myself and my mother. I was ready to walk out of the store which I mention aloud but my mother wanted to finish the transaction.
When we walked back to the front to finish the sale Mike was back in the small office behind the counter, but as we were closing he had more to say despite how reluctant we were the last time he interjected. Like a bad used car salesman he started in again on “Dells will break, the battery goes and they can’t be replaced.”
me: okay thank you. We’re okay without it bud. Mike: If that happens it’s $175.00 me: okay thank you. We’re good. Mike: Wellllll that’s on you then. and throws his hands up as he walks away chubby guy chuckling back to his closet.
For the record - Staples was the 3rd store we visited and is often not even on my radar because of experiences like this. I used to work in customer service and the general rule is that a costumer who has a good experience tells 2-3 people’s. A customer who experiences bad service tells on average 10 people. Rest assured we purchased the laptop because it was a good deal, but this was without question a bad experience that both my mother and I will be sharing with...
Read moreI came to Staples in Springfield, Pa for help in buying a laptop I needed that day for school and business. Clifford assisted me, tremendously, and I was able to buy a laptop, a printer, accessories and warranties!!! He explained how to use each item in ways I completely understood and respectfully answered all my questions!! I also established a relationship with the store and it's suppliers which helps me use, upgrade and protect my equipment!!! Who would have thought a stationary supply store would offer top of the line technology equipment and assistance!!! Not me!!! I plan to tell as many people as I can about my experience so they can benefit from it as well!! I really felt comfortable making my purchases and sharing my thoughts on more and more items I was thinking of getting. I even left my laptop and some items overnight for servicing which was very convenient for me. I definitely recommend Staples and Clifford for students, professionals, seniors, retirees, teachers, business owners, families, churches, community centers, worship centers, leaders, military members, etc. & anyone else whether they excell in technology, are challenged to some degree and/or anyone in between to seek the services at this store. I believe you will be exceptionally satisfied, like me, and will find what you need and more!!! Thank you Staples and thank...
Read moreToday is June 15, 2024, at 1:37pm. I rarely attend this staples because of cashier #1789520.
At first, I thought he was a bit delayed, but no, I had it right the first time I came here about 1 year ago or less. He's not comfortable serving all kinds of people. He handled me like an object. He was short with his answers, under tone obnoxious, and I stood there and remembered my experience from the last time with him. Then another kind of customer came behind me. He was patient and even offered her a coupon, just so nice. What do you call this type of behavior?
Updated 6/23, same experience, no sense of practical professionalism at this store.
Update 2025: I received the nicest email from a manager from this store. I want to thank you for listening and offering kind and professional words. Thanks for " Being The Answer ".....it meant a lot. We are a human race, and we all bleed the same. Also, differences are beautiful. I hope to experience that upon a return someday. The experiences have been quite hurtful there but zi wanted to compliment the printing staff- very, very...
