The gateway arch national museum is a must visit for anyone visiting St. Louis. It is such an inconic symbol of the American expansion to the west. The museum has been recently remodeled, modernized and is free! Be prepared for airport style security. The exhibits are thoroughly researched and provide an excellent overview of the history of St. Louis and the westward expansion. I liked that it provided insight into the Native Americans living in the land. I highly recommend buying tickets in advance for going up the arch. There is a cafe inside the museum that serves coffee and some food, nothing extraordinary. There are ranger programs throughout the day. The park grounds are well maintained. The parking is difficult to find, so plan ahead of the tram time....

You need to use the visiting center to access the tram rides for the arch, so this is the building you need to go to. If you come inside, you will be going through security, so be mindful of that.
