I booked Funtastik Labs in Sugar Land for my daughter’s 8th birthday. While the kids had a great time (which is the only reason I’m giving this place 2 stars), the overall experience from a parent and host perspective was disappointing.
There was no courtesy call before the event to confirm the booking or go over details, I had to reach out myself just to get basic info. For the price you pay, they don’t include essentials like tablecloths, plates, or napkins, which most other birthday venues typically provide. They also didn’t assist with setup or cleanup at all.
We had a large water spill in our room, and when we asked for help, one of the staff just handed me a roll of paper towels. I had to request a mop myself, and once they brought it, they left it for us to clean up and never returned to take it back.
One of the girls running the party didn’t seem to know how to make the bath bombs, it felt like she was being trained during the party. There was little hands on help from staff, and they weren’t involved with serving food or helping things run smoothly. At checkout, they tacked on a “service fee for materials,” which made no sense considering what I had already paid.
To top it all off, I accidentally left a custom birthday banner behind, and instead of calling to let me know or setting it aside, they just threw it away. When I called about it, there was no apology, just a cold, “There’s nothing we can do now.”
This place feels like it’s run by untrained teens who don’t seem to want to be there. The lack of professionalism and care was very disappointing. The kids had fun, but from a parent’s perspective, it wasn’t worth the money...
Read moreMy 4 yr old daughter LOVED this place. Ever since she watched Emily Calandrelli on Emily’s Lab, she has been obsessed with science and different experiments. I liked being able to purchase an attraction to do art with her and see her dress up like a scientist in her little white coat and safety goggles. She had so much fun making the different things. The Lava lamp was her favorite. I do hope there can be different experiments she can do aside from the ones she did today otherwise I think she’d get bored. Emily has 2 books just on science experiments. I also liked this place was in a good location with food nearby, I know my girl gets hangry! The only small critique I had was the music selection. There was a song “Beautiful Girl” with a curse word and some of the lyrics were bit inappropriate for a kid setting talking about being suicidal over a girl. I’d invest in a Pandora subscription and set it to a kids station. Aside from that, my daughter had a blast! We painted the bears and the horse. I did the mama bear and she did the baby, it will forever be the most special thing I have in my home and will be a day we...
Read moreCall before coming. The 1st time we stopped by, we got turned away because they were at max capacity. The 2nd time (Saturday 1/11), we got in but it was CHAOS. There were only 2 staff members and probably over 40 people inside. We came to make slime and had to wait a bit after every step for someone to help or instruct us. The slime area had stuff every where. When we sat down, there was liquid slime activator spilled on the counter and no paper towels in sight to clean it up. They definitely didn't wipe it down before/after every guest.
My tips on the slime: Get the butter slime because it contains more ingredients to make: glue, shaving cream, clay, & activator. Plus it's a little less sticky. For the toppings, get the big charms instead of the small beads. The small stuff kinda disappears when mixed in. With the big charms you can play hide and seek after mixing them in. They're flat back charms so you can also remove them from the slime and use them to decorate...
