First and last time visiting this place. We are always looking for a vegan spot when in Houston and came across this place. The photos from the menu is what swayed me to go here instead of another spot in which we have already been and enjoyed. Wished we would’ve went with our gut feeling. When you try a new spot you obviously hope the food AND service is good. If not, you hope one or the other is good. This was not the case. There were a few patrons just leaving so it was just me and my wife. We were told to seat ourselves which is fine and our server came pretty quick. Not very friendly, though. “Service with a smile?” Not so much. I ordered the Prometheus burger and cheese fries. My wife the falafel gyro and tomato soup. The burger: for the $20 price the burger should’ve been bigger than my hand, and I have small hands. Flavor, just ok. The cheese fries: Cheese was just as runny as my wife’s soup (we’ll get to that in a minute. The falafel gyro: Decent The tomato soup: Horrible. Very acidic and sour. Usually my wife is good at putting some kind of seasoning to make a dish taste edible. However she took one spoonful and said, “this is horrible, I don’t want this.” I tried as well and agreed. Service: horrible, when our server asked how everything was and my wife told her soup was not good at all. To which the server replied, “Oh. Can I get you anything else?” No sorry, no what can I do to make this better. Nothing. My wife asked for a to go box for the gyro and did not get. We had to ask for our check and again, the whole time we were there it was just us while the two servers there were just talking amongst themselves. Conclusion: I don’t write a whole lot of reviews whether they are good or bad however for a first time, I can’t get over how dissatisfied I am with the whole experience. They’re are other vegan spots in Houston that blow this place out of the water and will be returning to those place when in...
Read moreFeb 2024 Update: I visited this place after about a year, and it's still good. Keep in mind that you're coming to a vegan restaurant. So if you are a meat lover like me, keep your expectations to what it needs to be.
Food tastes good. Portion size is plenty. The menu seems to have changed from the last time. This time, for appetizers, we tried the Hummus Board, Space Swamp, and Wings. All good. Wings - probably not something I'd pick next time. From real chicken to soy based wings - wasn't making a hit with the palate. The burgers and pizzas we ordered we great too.
Price - Ouch! Gone up from the last time. This is an expensive place now. Our group of 3 adults, 1 teen, and 1 child rang up $155!
To put it simply, as a voracious real meat lover, I'd never known I'd say this about a vegan restaurant - I Loved It! 😋
Food is a vegan twist on popular food items and I was very impressed with how close to real meat flavor it is. Everything is made to order and in small batches. Overall, here's what I liked and could be better.
What I Liked: Flavor. Food was so close to real meat flavor that if it were a blind test, I'd have a hard time differentiating. Portion size is great for a person, especially pizza. Good and comfortable ambience.
Could be better: Service timing - We would have liked it if the waitress checked on us more often as we needed things. They only recently opened so that could be it. Serving plates and cutlery - We had to ask several times for cutlery and the waitress still forgot. Also, I get the "new age" style of serving on cutting boards but c'mon... sometimes it's plain straight...
Read moreIts more of a bar than a full service restaurant and thats where I sat, at the bar. The servers were pleasant, quite nice, but not overly experienced. There were problems with the beer taps so my first choice had to be scratched because only half a glass could be procured. About halfway thru the meal someone came and fixed that.
Ordered a "Sloppy Vegan" which is a riff on sloppy joe - though its not like any sloppy joe i've ever had before. Thats maybe both good and bad. It came wrapped in a naan and while every ingredient inside seemed fresh and quite delish it did not satisfy overall. There was an interesting blend of pickled (i think) cabbage and finely chopped onions/cukes that while tasty didnt really belong inside with the savory mushroom/jackfruit blend mimicking the joe. Perhaps served on the side like a slaw would be better. Plus those were cold ingredients folded into what supposed to be a hot sammich. And the naan was not very hot either.
Came with a cup of soup - said to be lentil. It was decent enough but again slightly less than hot. Did I mention that it wasnt very busy on a friday late afternoon. Step up your game people.
Lastly I feel that even had the meal been perfect it was overpriced. Maybe thats a Houston thing but I travel all over the country and I was not impressed. Was hoping for a lot more and I hope they can work on it to make it better - I love good murderless food!
Overall I found the entire situation confusing - the layout, the menu, the logos and graphics. Its all a big frenetic mess. Less comfortable...
