Summit Oaks Hospital — Attraction in Summit

I’m not putting my name on this specifically due to the violations of my privacy that I have already endured and was repeatedly lied to about by this hospital’s clinicians and their outpatient director, Janice Rainford.

Their allowance for cellphone use during group therapy sessions, in direct violation of their own posted “GROUP GUIDELINES”, made for an event where a patient was live streaming an audio and video feed repeatedly during group therapy sessions in which I was discussing highly sensitive personal and professional details of my life concerning my pursuit of help with my behavioral health, a matter of my private medical records.

It was a patient who violated this, but worse was the hospital’s handling of it. They returned the patient to the group where they immediately resumed activity on their cellphone. The hospital took no accountability in securing my privacy in treatment, gaslit me with lies about not having any awareness or practice of the their own written and posted guidelines explicitly stating the prohibition of cell phone use during group therapy sessions (see photo of posted “GROUP GUIDELINES” enclosed).

It took my repeated complaints about this, as well as their over-flowing trash cans clearly demonstrating a low regard for waste management and its relevancy to public health, before I was even informed there was a patient advocate on premises.

Marion, the patient advocate, was the only staff member within this facility who validated my concerns which have since been validated by absolutely EVERY SINGLE MEDICAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL unaffiliated with this hospital with whom I have spoken to about this. Their other patient advocate, Christopher Nicolaides, not once returned a single call to me over the course of weeks of leaving voicemails.

As I continued to press this matter, advocating for my privacy and all of their patients’ privacy to be protected, the environment became increasingly hostile. Fellow patients within group therapy sessions began openly bullying me with verbal abuse and threats of physical violence, about which clinicians did nothing and lied about their handling of these matters as a group effort to protect one another from accountability to a potential HIPAA violation.

I strongly discourage anyone from seeking help from this facility. My privacy was not safe here, my physical well being was threatened, I was verbally abused by fellow patients in the presence of clinicians, and lied to about the statements explicitly made in their own group guidelines which are posted right on the door of their primary group therapy area by their own clinicians in the most ridiculous and impossible sense.

While standing in the doorway of the group therapy area with me, looking directly at the guidelines presented in the photograph below, a clinician by the name of “Carrie” (as she was called, I’m not certain of the spelling) asked me: “Where does it say that?” with regard to my statement that their guidelines clearly state the use of cellphone devices is prohibited during group therapy sessions. She treated me like I was delusional and acted as though she were illiterate. Her fraudulent performance was mind bogglingly absurd. It was genuinely troubling to see someone in a position of behavioral health authority acting in such a willfully duplicitous manner towards a patient who had voluntarily come to them seeking assistance with their mental health.

This is a place of extremely poor general logic and ethics, and a worryingly low regard for patient privacy. If you’re a clinician and you don’t recognize the irony of tattooing your knuckles with the text “self care” in an act of decorative self mutilation, you have no business having authoritative access to my medical records. This hospital should not be Joint...

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I was a Patient in early November 2021 and it was the worst week of my life I came out even worse. My first day was fine because it was nighttime but the bed was as flat as a yoga mat and you get stained sheets and 2 flat pillows stuffed into a pillowcase, the food was awful, if you have an ED trust it would get worse eating this hospital food, you’d get unseasoned everything, a tiny bread, and if you were lucky a slightly warm Mac and cheese, the alternative food option was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The staff were very dismissive and while I was there it was 1 doctor spilt with 2 child units and 2 adult units and 4-5 case worker spilt amongst all the kids, this hospital was very understaffed and poor overall, the shower situation was very bad always having cold water and baby shampoo to use for body wash. There was fights with staff everyday and the favoritism was crazy, there was 2 woman named sara and I will talk about the brown haired one, she was always around this 1 boy and always gave him special treatment, once that boy had a breakdown and that sara stayed in the doorway for about 45mins just talking to him not letting his roommate in and wouldn’t give neither the staff or patients her time! imagine that a staff member sticking her head into the boys room talking for 45 minutes ignoring everyone else, last time I had a break down I was locked in my room to calm down and no one talked to me until I came out on my own. Next the rooms, there was writing everywhere from kids about how much they hated this place and wanted to leave and the walls are brick with paint chipping, the bedding was stained and you got 1 flat sheet and 1 nasty blanket, omg and the night staff do not know how to close a door, every 15 mins night staff came in flashed a flashlight in your face and then leaves the door open, I choose to stay up and scare the lady and she finally learned to close the door. Showers were cold with only baby soap for everything unless you had someone to bring real products for you and towels were meh and stained. Everyday we had meeting to talk about the etiquette when using common areas and omg it was always to pick up your hair after showering, WE KNOW, there would be 1 bad apple BUT EVERYDAY WE WERE TOLD TO PICK UP OUR HAIR AS IF WE DIDNT ALREADY KNOW. As for schooling, everyone was ofc different grade levels with different levels but maybe it would have been smarter to put younger kids with younger ones and older kids with the older ones instead of mixing the two and everyone doing counting apples/fraction work that was just dumb, my school district actually had issues with this place and I could not have my school work transferred so I was stuck counting apples even tho I was hs jr…. Also if you had switched to online school yea you could not do it as the staff does not give anyone access to electronics under no circumstances even though on the guide you get on day 1 it says you can get privileges like access to internet, that is a lie, no matter how good or bad you acted you’d get treated the same way as everyone else, maybe an Oreo from time to time. Also there was a time we had an art class and I wrote M(my) O(own) M(monster) since we had to draw something pertaining to someone in our life and the art lady saw it asked me like 3 questions and that was it and nothing came from it, my case worker didn’t even bring it up, imagine writing MOM with my own monster under it and that lady is like why,how and that’s it smh anyways that’s it I have more to say but I’m tired. This is the worst facility you could have ever entrusted with the mental health care of your loved ones, let alone your minor-aged child. This facility would not know what the minor details of HIPPA would be about if it smacked them in the head. My child not only came home with the most private health information of her peers, but I could only imagine how much of her personal health information her peers were privy to based on her stay at Summit Oaks. I asked her how was she able to obtain all of this very private information. She boldly told me this was something that the kids did often and the "techs" took part in this "charades" game of how crazy are you?WRONG on so many levels! SAHME ON YOU Summit Oaks!
