We stayed 3 nights at what we expected was a quant bed and breakfast. First night (room 15) was sleepless. The bed sagged in the middle so we rolled into each other the entire night. The mattress had absolutely no support so every time we moved the bed jiggled like we were sleeping on a bowl of jello. We were up most of the night.|We talked with Sadie (staff on site) in the morning and she arranged for us to stay in room 8 the second night and then room 5 for the 3rd night. Room 8 was to be cleaned during the day and ready after 4 pm. We came back at 9:30 PM from a day in NYC to find that Room 8 was never cleaned. We called the pm emergency line and Sadie offered to come and clean the room for us or we could stay in room 17, which was available. We lugged our luggage up the stairs and decided to stay in room 17. That room was fine. The final night we stayed in room 5 which was also fine. |We requested some kind of compensation for the horrible bed on night number 1 in room 15 and returning to a completely unclean new room on night number 2, but the manager responded that we had been given an upgraded room (#17) for night number 2, and they were not charging us for the "upgrade". Therefore, they were not going to "further" compensate us. We don't consider a sleepable mattress and a clean room an "upgrade"||The breakfast is a continental style with breads, yogurt, fruit, coffee and tea.|The coffee is Folgers and pretty much not drinkable. We went to a coffee shop down the street each morning. The Greek Yogurt and fresh fruit were good but the breads and pastries were grocery store quality. Although a non-smoking establishment, smoking was occurring regularly on the front porch, which was bothersome as we were coming and going from the hotel.||Sadie (the staff person on site) was the saving grace. She did what she could to make our stay tolerable. Management, on the other hand, did not...
Read moreFirst, the positives. The location could not be more perfect. I think we had what is probably the best room. First floor, It had two double beds, so my husband and I each had room to stretch out. It had a huge bathroom with tub and shower. Both bathroom and bedroom were very clean. The bedroom had a TV, refrigerator, microwave, desk, and a few other items I'm forgetting. (It did need a trashcan). The circular breakfast room is from another era and just stunning with beautiful windows. As a matter of fact many of the inn's windows were nearly floor to ceiling. Breakfast was an expansive selection of bagels, breads, cereal, etc. No hot food. I enjoyed the two peaceful lounges, one considered the library. In spite of the fact that the inn was full, I seemed to be the only person making use of them. Now to the reason for only giving the inn four stars. My husband's mattress was abysmal. it was so lumpy that we flipped it in the middle of the night but that was no help. My pillows seemed very old and I imagined many other heads sleeping on them before me, which was creepy.Bottom line: the inn needs to invest in some quality bedding. The other negative: when we arrived, we parked in the lot behind the inn. Robert, who seems to be the Jack of all trades at the inn, greeted us and took us in the back door. The inn really shouldn't let anyone come in that way. The exterior and the room you enter are crammed with filthy "junk", I don't even know how to describe it. My husband and I were just about to turn around and walk out, but then we entered the beautiful and well maintained inn itself and all was well. We also enjoyed Sadie who manned the front desk. Always smiling and happy to help. I will be back. Not so sure about...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I love to stay in historic inns/bed and breakfasts. The DeBary Inn has so much potential to be a comfortable, charming stay. While I can only comment on the one night and one room we stayed in, I’m sad to admit that it was a very disappointing experience. The inn’s exterior is beautiful, and the wraparound porch is a nice place to sit and relax in the morning. It's in a fantastic location within short walking distance to downtown Summit. After hours check-in was clear and simple. I can't comment on the service, as we were only there for one night, but the staff members I did see in the morning were quiet but pleasant. The room, however, was not worth the stay. Room 11 is in desperate need of TLC. The walls are noticeably scuffed, and the closet doors are difficult to open and close. The room also did not look clean, as there was previous guests’ hair in the shower and on the bathroom floor. There were also specks of dirt or something adjacent under the fitted sheet on the bed. I did not try the breakfast because, while free, it reminded me of what you would find at a Hampton or Holiday Inn—not up to the standards of an actual bed and breakfast. I rarely say this about an accommodation, but I would not stay here again unless changes were implemented in regard to general maintenance, housekeeping, and...
