Sun Cities Area Historical Society/Del Webb Sun Cities Museum — Attraction in Sun City

A one of a kind jewel in the desert!! Created by dedicated local volunteers, to preserve the legacy of a unique man undertaking a risky financial venture, which set the bar for all others (Robson Resorts, et al) to follow. While the museum may have odd hours of operation it is well worth making a phone call to see if it'll be open. And Yes!, it's "just a house" as the other reviewer commented - but that's what makes it so awesome! It was an original model home for the development!! Don't miss the "theatre video" (a seriously unedited "first take" and so amateurish by today's standards). It's hilarious as the "actor" scuffs his tires on the curb. And catch the wife cooking dinner in dress and heels!. All so "Leave It To Beaver" and " Father Knows Best". Plenty of parking in front and also on the other side of the street. Accessible entrance and paved sidewalk leading up to it. They have some informative signs outside. Once you enter, it's just $5 which is a great deal as they also provide you a tour for that. You get to learn about the history of Sun City and Del Webb. They have the main room which has some antique furniture. Next to that is an old kitchen with a historic stove, fridge, and shelves. To the side, they have an old bathroom with historic stuff from the 1900s and next to that is a small theater with ~15 or so seats and you can sit there and watch a video to learn more about the history. What a wonderful collection of the history of the Sun Cities, and the Del Webb story that lead to their creation. From a spark of an idea that he was skeptical about even working, to an incredible community for active adults to be part of today - this place is simply fascinating - and made all the better by the accompanying stories told by volunteer docents - painting a picture in your mind of all that it took to make the beautiful communities that so many enjoy LIVING in today!
