Two stars because the cop activity is weird and the police department doesn't allow for reviews, but I like the Town Center. It's cool.
I'll admit to having swerved at 2 AM after opening a restaurant and working open to close the day before. Classes also started this week and I'm desperately trying to graduate with three majors and two internships this semester.
I explained that to the cop but he triggered a LOT of flashbacks stemming all the way to childhood and even though I told him I have anxiety, which I do with the papers to prove that, he still wanted to assume it was drunk driving. I was sober. I haven't really drank since 2021 if I'm being honest too. I asked if he wanted to see the papers as well and he declined. I also keep the papers in my car because that childhood trauma taught me to always keep important documents on you. Now I'm not saying the cop was a jerk, he was very professional. Professional like a car salesman.
He asked me to take a field sobriety test and I was honest and told him Tik Tok has gone and scared me with all these sober people being arrested for DUI after doing one and that it's said these are designed to fail. I ended up taking the test because he asked what I meant and I couldn't think of an example off the top of my head so I just said if he was gonna take me he'd take me so let's get it over with right? He would not tell me the other options unless I declined the test.
During the test he had me FACE THE ROAD and follow a finger with only my eyes. Mind you it was 2 AM my ADHD meds had definitely worn off, again VERY sober. So I told him that. I passed. I wonder what would have happened if I didn't tell him I have ADHD, I know there would be a lawsuit somewhere that's for sure. He also didn't ask to prove the impairment, which again, I could have.
The cops need mental health training, DESPERATELY. I already have an appointment set with my therapist over this because the flashbacks truly sucked and are still sucking days later. All in all, it was a waste of time compared to the cars literally speeding behind him. Like I really pay taxes for this? Where was the breathalyzer? Was I just a possible number for his quota to him? I'm a person...
Now I don't want to get him in trouble because he did come across as a nice person for someone that can singlehandedly destroy a stranger's life with one bad judgement, but I still think the city really should talk to their police about mental health and those that deal with it. If he couldn't tell a panic attack and flashbacks from being drunk that's really unsettling.
And one last thing, if I mess up at my job I get fired. If a cop messes up at their job, someone's life is ruined and they get paid suspension for it....
Read moreWent for the Suwanee BBQ Fest on Saturday, 9th October 2021...whoever came up with the logistics of the food vendor layout should be replaced. It was highly unorganized with barely enough space between vendors to tell them apart. The buying of the tickets so people wouldn't have to handle money and food was ridiculous, as most people handling the "registers" were only taking orders and not handling food, and if you didn't spend all the tickets you purchased, they weren't giving you your money back for any unspent tickets. The event was 10-6, and by 12 it seemed there was 0 brisket left at any vendor, and by 3 most vendors were out of most of their food as if they had not planned to stay til 6 or to be as busy as they were, clearly not anticipating the pent-up demand festivals everywhere are experiencing right now. The vendors were all similar in taste and style, whoever vetted the businesses clearly had no eye or taste for variety. It was a BBQ FESTIVAL, and not one vendor was offering burnt ends, a classic staple of southern style bbq, but there were movie theater-quality nachos and cheese(?). The location itself, Suwanee Town Center is awesome as always, and as bad as the bands were, they were worsened by an awful audio quality. Would not recommend the Suwanee BBQ Festival to any BBQ lover, but the Suwanee Town Center is always a great place to...
Read moreIt really is a nice place. When I grew up in the area it was a forest, who would have thought it would be a park, housing, and businesses. The September 11, 2001 memorial needs some work. I was there on 9/11/2023 and the staff were blowing leaves, and the benches were covered with grit from the leaf blowers. It's the wrong time to be working on leaf blowing. The maintenance manager had his staff remove trash from the memorial while I was there. That should be done before 9/11. One of the staff members was going to pick up the flowers, where did y'all find such a clueless employee? The liriope is full of weeds, and there are bare spots and the drip irrigation lines are just laying there. September 11 is a special day to many of us, that memorial is also, it should be better maintained and it should be kept as a memorial, not a place for people to walk their dog, or their kids to play and ride their scooter, or people stand in the liriope and take a selfie against the fence. Some things should just be respected, look at that piece of twisted metal, that used to be part of a building. Nice park but clueless people just dismiss the memorial and it's importance. I traveled an hour and a half to get there. No wreath? No...
