I've been coming to this place for a while now, and the food is typical of your average deli/sandwich shop. The area doesn't have the best quick-eating options, so we find ourselves here frequently. While the food is consistent, the service is questionable. While the young staff are fine and do the job, the owner (wife, I believe) are not the friendliest. I noticed the sign telling you that you that guests only have an hour or something max to eat, and all around, you'll see these off-putting signs not to do this or that.
You can see that the owners will take their time with some guests and be pleasant, but will not give the same service to myself, or others, whenever I visited. Even so, it was never bad enough that I wouldn't visit back, especially since we live so close to the area.
However, this last visit will be the last. I came in with my kids during a slow weekday lunch, and while hurrying to order and eat since we only had 30 minutes or so until they closed, my kids were deciding on what to drink for their meal. At the counter, my son got one drink and realized, last minute, that the type of drink he chose was an "upgrade" so he rushed back to grab the kids drinks included in their kids meal. I didn't realize that I got charged $3.99 for the original drink still. I sat down with my kids and began to eat.
The owner drops off our meal and looks strangely, picking up our drinks, looking for something. You could see her point to something and counting with her finger how many drinks we had, literally looking under the table. All the while, not saying anything, so I'm very confused. She finally says, there should be 4 drinks since she saw us with 4 at the counter. I told her that my son switched out the drink at the end, and that we only purchased 3. She said she saw my son with the upgraded drink at the counter. She just kind of brushes it off and leaves without apologizing for the misunderstanding, as if she didn't just accuse my kid of stealing a drink.
After the strange encounter, I looked at my receipt, and sure enough, noticed that I got charged for the upgraded drink still, when I shouldn't have been charged to begin with since he swapped it out for the kids drink (which the girl at the register saw).
Anyway, the whole encounter was weird as hell, and it's always the same owner that ruins the experience when we're there. I didn't go back to the register to get a refund for the drink we mistakenly got charged for, but man, no way to be running a small town shop with...
Read moreThe young guy on the cash register today appeared to be on drugs, and was not friendly at all. A sandwich, bag of chips, and a drink should not cost $20. I am not the type of person to pile deli meat onto mine at home, however the sandwich I paid nearly $20 for today, barely had any ham, I mean, I am talking about a tiny portion. You would be better off driving down the street to Jersey Mike’s, at least you would be getting $20 worth of food. The amount of ham I got today, is laughable. Total rip off!!
Update: By your response, I can see what the problem is, Owner/Managerial problem. You have several reviews similar to the one I posted. It was by far a bad sandwich served by people with equally bad attitudes. What kind of statement is “if you choose less toppings than what we offer, it will look smaller” I’m not talking about toppings, I’m talking about lack of ham! It was skimpy, and I should have taken a picture to go along with this review. I’d go back and order it again just to show everyone but I’ll never give you another dollar (not that you care) go to the supermarket you said to me, I should have on that day. Must be different owners because it was a wonderful deli for many years but not anymore. To everyone reading reviews and making a lunch decision based on reviews, here you go 1- staff are extremely rude, will not greet you, acts as if you are bothering them, etc 2- manager/ owner has zero concern about customer service 3-the wait is longer than average, not because they are busy, but because they don’t care and clearly hate their jobs. 4-barely any meat on the sandwich I get it Mr. Owner guy, gotta cut corners to save a buck, but you’re losing business by doing so. Perhaps if the amount of deli meat is a common complaint, which it appears to be, you should reassess your portion size and your...
Read moreSo, here is the rub. I heard great things about this place and finally had time to try it. Walked in at 3:20pm. 3 others parties of people sitting in the dining room. The guy who took my order was sweet and explained everything fairly well. I decided on the Hot Pastrami and upgrades to a cup of soup. Was excited to dig in. As I am about to pay he says “oh, you have to take it to go because the dining room is closed” and I stare at him because this probably should have been said at the top, not after we discussed everything and I made my selection and am ready to pay. So I said OH, I mean, I would like to eat inside but okay.
It’s 60 degrees out with 27 mile per hour winds so a little uncomfortable to be kicked out of the dining room when you are open till 4pm.
So, I am sitting in my car and can say the pastrami is delicious (soup underwhelming-skip it) but having a rule where customers can’t eat the $14 sandwich and soup they just bought in the dining room just made me say “Not coming back”.
You know how long it takes me to eat a sandwich and a soup? About 10-15 min. Which would be now as I am writing this from my car at 3:39. You are still open for 21 more minutes but I had to eat in my car?
I suggest that rule changes and the employees clean the dining room when you close at 4pm and allow paying customers to actually sit down and eat the meal they just...
